About two decades ago, some people said using synthesizers and samplers meant what we're doing was not 'real music'. Now they say that using AI means it is not 'real art' We proved them wrong. We will prove them wrong again. #AI #AiArt #StableDiffusion #midjourney #AiArtwork

I hate when people say "this", but... THIS. "If you really have something to say, wouldn't you revel in the possibility of 1000x more ways to say it?" 💯🎯
gorkulus@gorkulus

@PurzBeats It blows my mind that people who call themselves artists see this tech and don't feel excited by the creative possibilities, but threatened by them. If you really have something to say, wouldn't you revel in the possibility of 1000x more ways to say it?

Access to next generation AI is a human right. Otherwise we will have augmented humans and everyone else, divide will grow. Restricting generative AI access is like restricting internet, phone or camera access. It must be open. It must be a public good. Support free speech.

AI ethics should be about getting AI into everyone’s hands ASAP.

Price comparison between cars and cargo bikes: Car: $25K Cargo Bike: $5K for a bike + $25K for a car when you realize that the bike is not what you need. (I'm just guessing here, but I'll bet that the avg cargo-bike owner is richer than the avg car owner.)

Programmers and Squirrels have one thing in common. They find it easier to search for things once they've been put into a tree.

The mere exposure effect ("familiarity breeds liking") is one of the classic cornerstones of academic psychology. And unfortunately, it failed to replicate just now. psycnet.apa.org/record/2022-84…

Databases are the original application servers. Sometimes I wonder if we really need all that middleware, SQl-to-JSON-REST code at all. Could a web app just talk to postgres directly? why not ? (anarchy, I know, I know...)
Swizec Teller@Swizec

Based on all this an “experienced systems programmer” could implement a system that - manages data for you - uses a simple language for data retrieval - guarantees consistency at expense of speed - hides data storage details from the user We now call this a database
