@PokeCardsDaily i don’t think this is gonna be the SIR for a couple reasons… 1 of the reasons is the HP (mega darkrai has 280 not 350) and the other is the set numbering (the japanese set is confirmed to have 81 cards not 90)

@AYONESSBU @HarprTCG depends on the list, if you’re playing 4 ultra balls then probably meowth, any less and i would choose tatsu. i run 4 poke pad, 2 ultra ball, and tatsu. also helps that the fish is a 1 prize liability instead of 2

Last time we had “Nationals” in Canada it was in 2016. Canadians have had to travel to the US for 10 years for NAIC - our shared International event. Toronto has capacity at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre for the event, let’s give it a try. Please! Not only is Canada very safe, the conversion rate is great for most foreign players in comparison to the higher USD. A super cool city, tourist friendly, and lots of family activities. I’m sure some will complain about needing a passport, but that might artificially resolve the player cap issue we are dealing with instant sellouts of events. Even then, Toronto Regionals sold out for the past few years, and I don’t see some paperwork holding players back from an “international” International Championships. My true vote would actually go to Montréal, but I don’t think TPCI is gonna make all of their signage in French, have French staff, and merchants will not have the needed 1/1 French versions available for sale so it becomes a logistical nightmare. Montréal > Toronto imo, but Toronto would be very very very cool. @playpokemon @Pokemon @PokemonTCG #PlayPokemon #PokemonTCG #Pokemon #Pokemon30

@chennney i had the pleasure of watching your interview on stream during orlando. after watching that, and hearing about ethan being dq’d, i was heartbroken. i have no doubt ethan is a kind, respectful kid who had no ill intention. i will be rooting for him in the future!!

I want to clearly state that Ethan is not going around randomly touching people, patting them on the back or head duck-duck-goose style. I'm not looking for vindication or to prove my son's innocence. Here are some considerations for public transparency: - He had previously played against them at other regionals - He thought this was a friend or acquaintance and had conversations with them at subsequent regionals - He sat next to this person and said good luck to them during phase 1 at Orlando in an amicable fashion - Wanted to say good luck to them for their win-and-in round Ethan was never told or given any indication that this person was not a friend, uncomfortable, or did not want any interaction with them. At least not to his knowledge. This situation could have possibly been addressed through a kid-to-kid or parent-to-parent interaction, e.g. "I'm not comfortable talking to you or interacting with you", or "I do not consider you a friend" or "Please stay away from my child". We had no such warning or conversation between families or even mediation from the judges. My view as a parent is that this outcome has created a massive ripple in the community and for families. This could have happened to any one of the kids we know. We're all having conversations now about who you can trust and who you can or should be friends with. This is creating unintended emotional distress and paranoia about what can or will be considered acceptable or safe interactions. This situation completely erodes the perception of psychological safety, family friendliness, approachability and trust throughout the community. This has severe implications on the weaponization for the standards of conduct vs the spirit of the game and positive intent. Why should I risk and broaden my child's exposure to new people and friendships that could backfire on him? One of the most beautiful things that Pokemon had was that you could meet players from all around the world, discover your love of Pokemon together, compete and establish new friendships. Maybe you'd get to see each other at the next regional or IC or worlds and celebrate each other's accomplishments. It's delightful to see the kids cheering each other on, roaming the halls and eating ice cream together and playing video games and tag or trading plushies. Many people know that I am a strong proponent for the merits of Pokemon and the growth framework that it provides for the kids. It puts them in the driver's seat for their own self-improvement, develops resilience and pushes them to become determined to reach their goals. This could have been a private learning opportunity between families but has escalated to the general community. Ethan has already come to terms with the situation. He accepts full responsibility for touching someone who didn't want to be touched. He accepts that if his actions created anxiety or hurt someone, then his disqualification is appropriate. He understands that this ruling will help to inform the broader community about consent and boundaries, and ideally creates a safer space for all families and participants. I am proud of my son for his character, his integrity, his kindness, and his maturity and willingness to learn from this situation. I hope you all got a chance to witness this in his interview with Pokemon this past weekend.

Lots of mixed emotions for this weekend in Orlando. Ethan was disqualified for unsporting conduct and creating an unsafe environment. At the end of Phase 2, we were called up to the hive and notified that Ethan was getting disqualified. It was reported that E had touched someone on the head or shoulder, and it bothered that person. When we asked what could have transpired, E thinks that it might've been when he walked past someone and tried to pat them on the shoulder to wish them good luck, but accidentally touched them on their head because they turned. He touched someone who didn't want to be touched. Regardless of his positive intent, we were told that this was unwanted behavior and that he had been asked not to do this before (he wasn't aware of this), and determined to be severe unsporting conduct and disqualification. While we don't fully understand the ruling, and we don't know the other child's story, we respect the expectations and the standards of conduct. The judges are just following the rule book and trying to create a safe space. For the family that we have caused distress towards, we are sorry. If you come across this, please feel free to reach out and help us improve our understanding of boundaries, and acceptable interactions. It’s a hard lesson for us and our community about the broadening need for respect, recognizing people's boundaries, and to not assume what might be acceptable to someone else.

Imagine doing all this to your opponent and dropping a day 2 like this
Max tweet media
Josh M. (JayNeko)@JayNekoVR

TLDR: My round 8 opponent in Orlando yelled at me, tried to prevent me from calling a judge, was brought to tears, and manipulated me until I gave her the win for Day 2. My opponent made it clear from the moment we sat down she had never made day 2 before, had been playing for 8 years, this was the farthest she'd ever gone, looked up my limitless page and saw I'd day 2'd before, etc. Friendly and talkative until she misplayed, asked if she could take back an action (played ultra ball, wanted to super rod first), and I wanted to call a judge to resolve. She proceeded to yell at me, was brought to tears, and accused me of taking advantage of her having a panic attack by saying I wanted to call a judge. "I can't believe you're doing this to me," "You're being so mean." Totally out of left field. No one should EVER be made to feel like a bad person for wanting to call a judge to find the best resolution. She made a huge, loud scene, had a complete breakdown, and everyone sitting around us was looking over. I was embarrassed and felt like the worst person in the world. One of the players next to us started trying to comfort her mid-round. I ended up making the judge call in the middle of all this and the gameplay issue was de-escalated, but despite an extension (that was too short), we didn't have time to even start our game 3. Before the match, we agreed to discuss a gentleman's agreement if we reached game 3, but we didn't make it that far as we ran out of time just as she tied it up in game 2. She then accused me of reneging on an agreement and became extremely manipulative... "If I were in your shoes and my opponent hadn't made day 2 before, I'd give it to them," "we made a gentleman's agreement, but if you wanna take it back, whatever I guess." (Despite this very clearly just falling into concession territory). The judge standing near us even said "don't say things like that" as we had this post-match discussion. I try to avoid confrontation, consider myself a nice person, and am often a people pleaser. I've been taken advantage of in the past because of this. Honestly, I think she recognized this after her initial outburst and saw an opening. If not for the outburst, and the wildly unsportsmanlike conduct, I probably would have given her the win in this situation anyway so she could have a day 2 for the first time. Instead, I felt attacked and pressured by the possibility of another outburst if I refused to concede. So I did. At the end of the day, I have myself to blame for that, but this was the most deeply uncomfortable I've ever felt during a match. Pokemon should be a welcoming game and players should never be villainized for trying to clarify rules with judges and reach amicable resolutions. And no competitor "deserves" an outcome more than someone else for any other reason than the result of each game itself. In no way do I want to minimize the struggles my opponent may have with anxiety or other mental illness. My wife has chronic anxiety and I am deeply aware of the challenges and complexity that brings to everyday life. I hope my opponent is getting the help she needs, but that NEVER gives anyone license to lash out or raise their voice at other players. The last thing I want is a "witch hunt" for this person; I'm sharing my story in the hopes that it can prevent other players from ever feeling this way. It's important to advocate for yourself and not to let your opponent make you feel guilty for trying to make sure the game is played fairly. Your opponent doesn't "deserve" a win any more than you do, regardless of how long they've been playing or how badly they say they want it. And don't be afraid to report your opponent for unsportsmanlike conduct. I've spoken to some judges to try and prevent this from happening to other players. This soured the whole day for me, so I'd appreciate any chance to share my experience in greater detail if it can help avoid this kind of thing in the future. Thanks for reading
