If my opinions have that much of an impact on you, I suggest growing a thicker skin. Transition is an inherently tough process which requires resilience to endure. If an opposing opinion from someone on the internet who is urging caution… not calling you evil… causes you so much distress that you lash out with this much anger, transition will not make you happy. It will just make you feel slighted at every turn.

Removing and smashing bones is indeed effective at changing the shape of the face. That’s not in question. What’s in question is whether it’s ethical for the medical profession to risk paralyzing a perfectly healthy patient who doesn’t like how they look. This isn’t hard to grasp

@thepeacepoet99 @__MourningStar_ if you had an argument of any substance here you wouldn’t have needed to use the (might i say , genius) rhetorical strategy of calling it “bone smashing” and “barbaric” because they sound scary , so they must be bad . my turn ! decades of empirical research found it is effective
English

@thepeacepoet99 you have dedicated your life to stirring the pot which myself and my loved ones must live in . i am simply treating you how your actions deem those like myself to be treated : with contempt . if you find it undeservingly harsh , consider this is your impact on the lives of many
English

@clovescence You don’t need to be so combative. I’ll read it when I have a chance.
English

@thepeacepoet99 Tirrell, Abigail R, et al (2022) “Systematic Review of Perioperative Surgical Planning and Outcomes”
cross-examined data from 18 studies and more than one thousand patients . do i need to help you read it , or do you think you can do it all by yourself ?
English

My point is that simply opting for such a radical operation that carries the potential risk of a function-impairing injury on the basis of a cosmetic desire is unethical. I’m sure some people get lucky and don’t sustain such injuries. But that’s a fluke.
Every time going under anesthesia, a patient is risking death. Every time a surgeon cuts into a person, there is a risk for something to go seriously wrong. That risk is only warranted if there is a greater risk of what will happen if the surgeon doesn’t cut. I can’t find a single long-term outcome study of a clinically significant sample size which attests to this invasive surgery being a panacea. Long-term outcomes are important because injuries that one may not think will impair their function now, have the real chance of only getting worse and becoming function impairing with time. This is not to be taken lightly.

@thepeacepoet99 i have a question . should the foundation of medical practice be :
1. my friend told me a scary story
or
2. consistent evidence across studies which point to low rates of major complications , significantly low regret rates , and markedly higher QoL/wellbeing
English

How could I have known how you define “effective” when you did not define it? You cannot reasonably expect me to be a mind reader. I cannot assume that the effectiveness would be related to emotional states considering that of the many trans and detrans friends I’ve made over the years, the subsection who underwent FFS and suffered horrible complications including mild to severe facial paralysis, missing teeth and swallowing issues, evidently did not have their moods lifted by surgery.
