Being able to say you contributed to winning both a national championship and a WNBA championship in your home state has to be one of the most rewarding experiences in sports—and Katie Douglas can proudly claim that achievement. As a sophomore at Purdue, she teamed up with current Indiana Fever head coach Stephanie White and Ukari Figgs to lead the Boilermakers to the program’s only national championship. The Indianapolis native averaged (14.1) points, (6.2) rebounds, (3.5) assists, and (2.6) steals that season. As a senior, she would lead Purdue to another national championship appearance, coming just short of capturing a second title. Fast forward to the 12th year of her WNBA career, and Douglas played a pivotal role in helping the Indiana Fever secure their first franchise championship. She averaged (16.5) points per game during a (22-12) regular season, and although she did not participate in the finals due to injury, her 24-point performance in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals against Connecticut—including seven consecutive points late in the fourth quarter—was crucial in forcing a Game 3 and advancing Indiana to the finals. 🪄
