@ebwhamilton I'm the rare native Austinite whose heart is warmed by these before-and-afters. West Campus was so junky when I was growing up and the lack of housing meant students scattered across the city. So glad 1000s more people now get to call this area home and contribute to its vitality

@lasertitspewpew @ArmandDoma Simulating different dam designs to determine which one is least likely to catastrophically fail is very different than building a bunch of different dams and seeing which ones break and kill people. Doing the simulation is telling us why doing this in the real world would be bad

For better or worse, Berkeley owes its very existence as a city (rather than just farmland with an A&M college) to real estate interests. "Capital-led development" literally created the physical setting—an improvement, if you will—where this family was able to live their lives

@SerSirius22 @SFBART There's still going to be very frequent peak commute-time service but nights and weekends have recovered more than commute hours, so it makes sense to make those headways more reasonable.

As you know, a journalist wrote that, not me. Attacking me for a 7 word sentence in the article seems like you are in complete denial of the real situation at BART and our state. I care deeply about our riders, our climate, and the economic health of our region and state. That's why I have fought 7 years against the absurd policies of the BART board that have helped escalate the fiscal disaster we face. But I am, according to my board president, a "very small minority voice" on the board so not sure why you care about my seat.

There is nothing made up me pointing out that you seem to be arguing for service cuts. You inability to articulate an alternative further supports my contention.

Fun fact:@MTCBATA had the option to rent this adaptive reuse of the old Key System HQ (+ new tower) on top of 12th Street BART.
Instead ED Steve Heminger forced purchase of an old factory 1/2 mile from BART in SF and spent $256m after the renovation budget doubled.

@debora_allen1 @aszafran @Scott_Wiener @MTCBATA In 2008,@SFBART was running trains every 15 minutes nights and on weekends. Just before pandemic, trains were every 20 minutes night and weekends. They are now every 30 minutes nights and weekends.
It's disappointing that you don't know these things.

There is no "further reducing service" narrative. BART is now running more than pre-pandemic service, and carrying 39% of the ridership, with plans to keep expanding, though every expansion costs far more than the revenue it produces. My narrative has not been about reducing service, rather it has been about cutting costs of operations. That could have been done last year without cutting service.

@Jeffinatorator @SFBART I'm saying that if BART is forced to close stations (which is possible if they go over the cliff), those should be first since they are low ridership, are in cities that fight housing, and are in the district of the director who seems to be A-OK with massive service cuts
