As a Chinese i have to say for Korean as we are all east asians. Stop imagining us wanting lighter skin is because we want to be white people, The preference of not being tanned can date back thousands years ago when European are still barbarians not to mention latin america.

More importantly, social classes disappeared over a century ago, and at no point in Korean history was social status determined by skin color itself. Fair skin was simply a preferred beauty standard, not a system that divided people into different classes based on their skin tone

We know we’re not white (Caucasian). Our skin generally has more yellow undertones. Could this be a translation issue where the Korean word for “fair/light skin” gets translated as “white”? We’re talking about having a lighter complexion, not being white as a race.

so you don't need to worry.
Some ppl prefer to keep their skin light, while others choose to tan. It’s simply a matter of personal preferences

Becoming lighter is colorism, but getting a tan is fine?
That logic might make sense in countries that were historically ruled by or heavily shaped by white colonial powers, but it doesn’t really apply to East Asia, where the context is different.
