I have always maintained that the Nigerian Police Force needs proper funding and genuine reform. Beyond that, recruitment standards should be strengthened not just academically, but in character, training, and psychological evaluation. Raising the entry requirements to ND and BSc levels could help improve professionalism, but it must go hand in hand with accountability, continuous training, and better welfare. Only then can we begin to see a real change in how the force operates and serves the public.

To so easily shoot an unarmed person extrajudicially, in front of others including other policemen, shows that this likely isn’t the first time he is doing it. Also not the first time those policemen present are seeing extrajudicial executions, it means nothing to them.

I feel deeply shaken watching this. How did we get here as a country? A young man, already handcuffed, shot by a police officer not even in uniform. This is beyond heartbreaking it’s unacceptable. We are dealing with poverty, insecurity, and now continued abuse of power from those meant to protect us. This is why calls for real police reform cannot be ignored. We cannot keep allowing individuals with criminal tendencies into the force. Accountability must not be selective. I call on all relevant authorities to investigate this thoroughly and ensure that the officer involved is held accountable, regardless of the circumstances. Justice must not be optional.
