Heat 2 is shaping up as a massive, high-stakes production, very much in director Michael Mann’s wheelhouse of meticulous, atmospheric crime thrillers. Mann has been location scouting in the arid desert regions near Mexicali in Baja California, Mexico. The desert landscapes tie directly into the novel’s plot points, particularly Chris Shiherlis’s arc. Principal photography is still targeting a start around August–September 2026, running through March 2027, including 77 days in Los Angeles. In addition to LA and Mexico, Mann plans to shoot in Paraguay, Singapore, and Las Vegas. This multi-country, multi-era scope will require extensive coordination for practical shooting, period-accurate sets, and large-scale action sequences. Casting is still being finalized, but it has been confirmed that Christian Bale will star alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, Jason Clarke, and Stephen Graham.
