He also says that his intention to join soldier is to be accepted by PEOPLE.

@MargotxAerith @apctpop @therantindave The context being that this is how Cloud (the character whose story we’re following) and the main narrative is introduced. You’d know if you had the “reading” or “comprehension” to come up any rebuttal that wasn’t a failed attempt at one.

@JeffGimlizt @reblokha You could, if this story and the creators working on it didn’t emphasize the importance of this one catalyst. So not really no. You seemed really troubled by the fact each character has their own unique role. Tifa as an active catalyst happens to be one of her roles.

@JeffGimlizt @reblokha Nope, not about flex. In truth, the kickstart to FF7 (Cloud’s story) is rather humbling in the grand picture of “taking down Sephiroth” & “saving the fate of the planet”. Clerith stans just have a hard time accepting whose reunion it is that “sets the gears of fate in motion”.

FF7 Revelation Director Hamaguchi talked a bit more at the Square Enix Shanghai Q&A session on how Cloud views Sephiroth in the FF7 Remake series. Hamaguchi: Even though he admires Sephiroth as a hero, Sephiroth was also the person responsible for destroying his family, so he does have strong resentment towards him. It's a very complicated feeling. As to what exactly those feelings are, as much as I know you would like me to talk further about it, unfortunately I don't think I should say too much about it during this Q&A. I guess I can put it this way [...] Do you remember what Aerith said to Cloud at the church towards the end of Rebirth? She says there are different meanings to the word 'like.' That's what we want to convey between [Cloud and Sephiroth]. I hope my answer makes sense?

If the story of FF7 was about Cloud unknowingly having been “strong enough” then Aerith would’ve lived
It’s a story of accepting that he wasn’t strong enough to save Aerith, nor keep Tifa from harm in Nibelheim, and that being there for others is a choice he can still choose
