What an incredibly daft thing to say by someone whose main credential is climbing the political ladder. Even in the UK, where Mark Carney was far more contested, the criticism was about politics, not competence. Jacob Rees-Mogg accused him of "Project Fear," and Boris Johnson didn't take too kindly at his Brexit warnings, but neither argued he was incompetent or "wrong about everything." And when Carney left, Conservative chancellor Sajid Javid praised his "outstanding leadership." Even his critics treated him as a serious central banker who helped steady markets during Brexit, they just didn’t like what he was saying.

A lot of non-Liberals are going to be disappointed as Carney secures a majority government tonight. And many will see that majority as illegitimate since it was secured through back room deals rather than earned in a general election. Truth is, though, it’s not illegitimate. It’s just how our imperfect system works and has done for decades in favour of one party or the other. That said, it will certainly FEEL illegitimate to many Canadians. I know it will to me. But, really, who cares? On the plus side, PM Carney will have one less excuse for not delivering on all those promised nation building projects at speeds unseen in generations — in spite of, or perhaps because of, his new circus-sized tent. Let’s also hope the media finally finds its spine to start holding the majority circus performers, and not just the incredible shrinking Opposition, to account for what happens and what does not.

I am truly fatigued by this negative line of dreck about Canada. Yes, we have challenges, more at the moment than usual. But this is a tremendous country, and yes we have a Canadian Dream, the belief that people can come together to build better lives, and in doing so build a better country: fair, decent, and diverse.

Their children can't afford groceries. Their grandchildren will never own property. The entire middle class ladder has been sawed off at the third rung. They opened the borders and brought in so many people so fast that the cities don't resemble what they looked like ten years ago. The character of entire neighborhoods changed in a single generation. And if you say anything about it, if you even notice it out loud, you're a racist. You smile and clap and pretend you don't see your own country disappearing in front of you. The boomers don't live in those neighborhoods, of course. They live in the suburbs they bought for $200,000 in 1995 that are now worth $2.5 million. They don't see it. They don't have to. They only see the TV. The state broadcaster. That's how their reality is defined for them. And what are they worried about? A recent poll showed that the number one priority for older Canadian voters was signaling against Donald Trump. Not housing. Not immigration. Not the cost of living. Trump. Orange man bad. That's what keeps them up at night while their kids can't afford milk. And they don't feel any embarrassment over it. In fact, they're PROUD of it. These are the people who just handed Mark Carney a majority government. Serious people. Serious decisions. Obviously. So the young Canadians, the ones who can still do math and still want a future to look forward to, start looking south. America has jobs. Affordable housing. A culture that still rewards ambition instead of punishing it. Not to mention the beauty of the First and Second Amendments. Can you blame them? And what is Canada's response? Not "let's fix the economy." Not "let's make it possible to build a life here." Lock the door. Charge them half a million for the key. Thomas Sowell predicted this pattern. When you raise the cost of leaving, you don't keep your best people. You keep the ones who can't afford to escape. The ambitious ones leave earlier, before the cage door closes. The ones left behind are the ones the government deserves: obedient, dependent, and too broke to fight back. Free countries don't need exit taxes. Prisons do. You know what? Maybe it's time for America to just put Canada under a conservatorship. Like Britney Spears. Somebody needs to step in and manage their affairs because they are clearly not capable of governing themselves. Their government is spending their money, controlling their movements, trapping them inside their own borders, freezing bank accounts, and making decisions that no sane person would agree to. If your MP suddenly realizes your party jumped the shark, they should follow their conscience or the voters who sent them, not the party logo. That's literally how midterms work in the USA: voters punish or reward shifts every 2 years by flipping seats left and right. No sacred party loyalty required.
