I too often see DID being mistakenly referred to as a personality disorder. Intuitively, that might seem to make sense, but personality disorders include borderline, dissocial, narcissistic personality disorders etc. DID is classified under dissociative disorders.

@eltingvillerpf These aren't clinical pictures of Flippy's psychopathology, as it might seem. From that perspective, yeah tho! They can both be true in some ways! Like, Flippy in the second version also has PTSD – it's just that that's not what this is about. It's about Fliqpy. Not Flippy.

@nitrant_nit as someone w/ a dissocative disorder could it be both ? I dont have PTSD so someone else chime in but I can totally see fliqpy being partially that 'perfect soldier' mindset as well

@eltingvillerpf It can't be both, because these are two mutually contradictory versions of what FLIQPY (violent!Flippy) is by nature. The first version is that Fliqpy is merely a state of Flippy. The second version is that Fliqpy is an autonomous personality.

@33ggn0gPond Omg! Flippy is what got me interested too! I know he's probably done more harm than good when it comes to public understanding of PTSD (and DID), but I definitely wouldn't know half of what I do now about mental health and the structural dissociation without that cartoon bear.

@nitrant_nit Im a little happy I get to know about these disorders through flippy as a kid. I got interested and did my own research on it It overall helped me understand people with disorders and mental illnesses

Because what the fuck I went and applied all that serious terminology, named real disorders that are already heavily stigmatized as it is, and then illustrated it with FLIPPY IN HIS CANONICAL FUCKING STYLE.

I also changed the description of the remaining post. I forgot to STRESS OUTRIGHT that Flippy should in no way be considered a good depiction of someone with PTSD and/or DID.

I'm going to delete and reupload my post, because I realized that while trying to make the text describing the concept of DID simpler and more accessible for a mass audience, I may have made it too simple and thereby stigmatizing.

@inmemoriame1 I tend to think that in the early episodes it was more the first option, but by the end of the series it leaned more toward the second option. I'M NOT SURE but I remember the creators said they only came to the "multiplicity theme" in the episode "Hear Today, Gone Tomorrow."

@nitrant_nit personally, i always thought the first interpretation makes more sense but flippy is kind of a nightmare character in terms of mental health writing so it does kinda depend on your own interpretation because the show is kind of inconsistent with what he's supposed to have

@suitamusicalshi I love the second version because all I do is draw them as functional DID system, trying to move away from the binary system and the «the evil alter» trope. It's a lot of fun to research and explore and express things in art.

@suitamusicalshi I DO AGREE BTW!!! And I'm so incredibly happy that people understand this! But this show also didn't portray PTSD very respectfully. Both versions are good, I said, for headcanons and for development within the fandom, as interpretations.

@heathersappho @dunnow0rds Ну… как вам сказать. Асексуалы причисляются к лгбт. А еще они не фригидные. Асексуалы не испытывают ощущения потребности в сексе, но могут получать удовольствие в процессе секса. Даже есть разделение: Sex-favorable/Sex-indifferent/Sex-repulsed
