On the morning of August 27th, independent journalist and researcher Javid Aga went missing, and we suspect that he may have been abducted by government forces in Azerbaijan. According to his friends, he was supposed to travel abroad for study and was on his way to the airport. However, the airline has confirmed that no passenger by the name of Javid Aga boarded the flight. Javid Aga is known for his critical stance against the authoritarian regime in Azerbaijan and his outspoken opposition to the war. His sudden disappearance is part of a broader pattern of repression conducted by the Azerbaijani government against its own citizens. Currently, over 300 political prisoners are being held in Azerbaijani jails. Among the most recent arrests is that of Bahruz Samedov, a political scientist charged with treason due to his anti-war stance. This indicates a clear shift in the government's repressive apparatus, now targeting peace advocates and war critics. We urge everyone to spread this letter to help prevent the torture that Javid Aga may currently be facing. Your voice can make a difference in ensuring their safety and in defending the rights of all political prisoners in Azerbaijan.
