US troops in hotels isn't using "human shields," etc. I get it: whatever the US does is ipso facto legitimate; whatever its enemies does is the opposite. such is power. but the simultaneous posturing about unshackling the military, ending woke pieties, war is hell, c'mon now

hegseth pledged "no quarter." earlier this year a US sub sank a boat of iranians coming back from a fleet regatta. those we didn't kill we abandoned to drown. this week the iranians shot down and captured US pilots who were bombing them and it's being called a "hostage taking."

An under-appreciated but defining characteristic of Trump is that whereas other presidents were simply sellouts to the oil and gas industry, he actually hates nature. He despises its beauty and wants to see it destroyed. The existence of sacred landscapes offends his ego.
