Tonight on our FB page I am going to share something that was brought to my attention just before @NickMartinSKY published the heartbreaking story "of a child named Nonita". My own emails researching this and the replies I received @JoshMacAlister @NickMartinSKY

Lebanon is being destroyed. A country with a rich culture and beautiful ancient architecture. 1.1 million people (including 390,000 children) forced out of their homes by relentless bombardment. Towns and villages flattened. Infrastructures destroyed. Innocent civilians killed. There is absolutely no justification for this bombardment atrocity. It’s creating a humanitarian disaster.

The easiest solution is to just lift sanctions and buy Russian oil. Instead, the EU continues enforcing and tightening measures against Russia’s “shadow fleet” of tankers. France, for instance, is actively increasing penalties for ships evading identification rules tied to Russian oil trade. Major EU leaders including France’s Emmanuel Macron and Germany’s Friedrich Merz have explicitly rejected easing sanctions on Russia despite the Iran crisis and high fuel prices. They argue it would reward the Russians, fund the war in Ukraine, and repeat the strategic mistake of energy dependence that Europe spent years unwinding. Calls from outliers like Slovakia’s Robert Fico or Hungary’s Viktor Orbán to drop sanctions and restore flows have gained little traction. So they’d prefer to completely deindustrialize and starve than fix anything. Insane. Total lack of common sense.

Irish police are forcefully dragging out protesting farmers from their tractors at the Whitegate oil refinery right now and beating them up as gas prices continue to soar. The protests stem directly from rapidly rising gas and diesel costs, exacerbated by the ongoing 2026 Iran-related conflict including restrictions on oil flow through the Strait of Hormuz. The global energy shock has hit Ireland particularly hard because fuel prices there are heavily taxed—taxes make up roughly 59% of petrol prices and 52% of diesel prices as of early 2026. Protesters argue that a government package worth €250 million does not go far enough to offset the crisis or cushion knock-on effects from the Middle East situation.

The gas shortage situation in Europe is threatening to spiral out of control as French truck drivers are now protesting against skyrocketing fuel prices exacerbated by the situation in the Strait of Hormuz. The drivers claim they will intensify their actions if fuel prices don't go down. Much like Ireland, fuel in France is heavily taxed due to their embrace of net zero policies.

Rachel Reeves’ fuel tax raid is slammed by nearly 500 haulage bosses who warn it will push thousands of businesses to the brink, ramp up food costs for households and stoke inflation. The Chancellor is reversing the 5p per litre duty cut from September, adding over £3 to the average car fill-up. This hits as pump prices have already soared amid the Iran conflict, with commercial vehicles moving 80% of Britain’s goods. RHA: “We cannot afford another inflation crisis caused by the cost of fuel.” Yet another cost-of-living blow.
