Shows like Black Lagoon or Cyberpunk are set in the West or multicultural hubs where English slang actually makes sense, but when you try to apply that same logic to the thousands of other anime rooted in Japanese culture, it falls apart. The technical gap is still massive because most dubs are rushed through a simuldub pipeline where "accuracy" is sacrificed just to hit a deadline. You end up with that same "cartoon intonation" where every character sounds like they’re in a low budget Saturday morning show because the directors are prioritizing lip sync over genuine emotion.
