@HEYimHeroic i have yet to beat jevil or the knight but i am ass at bullet hells lol
English

@CStickernoodle also, like, the fact that there is a player who is separate from the character controlled by the player is important to Undertale's story. if you're not playing it, you lose the weight of that aspect of the story!
English

@RyakiRockRadio @Fullbusterfan @diabodonorte @ctostoic you can also look up how to solve puzzles in Zelda, does that mean you're not playing a game in those sections?
and real time? how does that not exclude turn-based RPGs, for example?
English

@2nothda @Fullbusterfan @diabodonorte @ctostoic 33 whole loss conditions that are immediately resolved through one glance at a guide.
When I say reflexiveness, I mean that you're active, in the moment, in real time, directly acting towards and reacting against enemies and obstacles.
English

Bruhhhh, I mean one of this is an actual game that requires inputs and thinking the other has an auto-play feature

*sees an 80+ hour visual novel*: "yeah I can do that no problem" *sees an 80+ hour JRPG* "yeah...I don't think I have the time for that."
English

@RyakiRockRadio @Fullbusterfan @diabodonorte @ctostoic plenty of games don't have loss states (many sim and sandbox games, for example) and plenty of VNs do have loss states (Tsukihime has 33!).
and I'm not sure what you mean by reflexiveness in this context
English

@2nothda @RyakiRockRadio @diabodonorte @ctostoic there’s barely any real agency all you control is predetermined actions not any yourself
English

@doctorbattle @sailoryue i've definitely had plenty of cheeseburgers using sliced bread in my life, that's fairly run-of-the-mill in the trenches lol
English

@sailoryue Exactly. Now which would you call a burger, if you had to pick one, between the chicken sandwich listed above, or a burger that uses ground meat and other traditional burger ingredients, but sliced bread instead. Obv sliced bread isn't ideal, but I think it is much closer.
English

It's like there's no regard for the word burger anymore. I'd sooner call traditional burger ingredients in a lettuce wrap, or white bread, a burger, than non burger meat a burger.

Americans will call a chicken burger a “chicken sandwich” even though it’s clearly in a burger bun

Day 418 of waiting till Tsukihime Remake The other side of the red garden / far side routes drop.

@42in47mouf @cowgirl_bebop Living in a small town in Europe, I can confidently say you're wrong. Population of 9k and we have this at the supermarket plus a dedicated deli.
English

People don't seem to understand American abundance. This is the specialty cheese section, which is completely separate from the rest of the dairy aisle where you'd get things like string cheese and regular cheap block cheddar.
We have everything, and in ridiculous quantities.

Literally what the fuck are you talking about?
English

@Fullbusterfan @RyakiRockRadio @diabodonorte @ctostoic (i would also argue that gameplay extends beyond just the moments when you press the buttons, but i digress)
English

@Fullbusterfan @RyakiRockRadio @diabodonorte @ctostoic if clicking a button to change what happens in a game isn't gameplay, then what is?
English

@andronauts @ctostoic play it provides a completely different context and a completely different experience, because a passive observer has no expectation of choice and no illusion of control (or lack thereof)
English

@andronauts @ctostoic DDLC not having branching paths is part of the artistic intent! its a subversion of the player's expectation that they will have choices, which is then used to question what choice even means in video games (i.e the choice to delete Monika). passively observing someone else (1/2)
English

@2nothda @diabodonorte @ctostoic No shit, Sherlock. If I wanted to read a novel, I would read a physical, ink-and-paper novel with no sex.
English

@RyakiRockRadio @diabodonorte @ctostoic something something contempt for the medium something something
English

@2nothda @diabodonorte @ctostoic The interactivity in question being a menu popup every three or so hours asking what flavor of ice cream you should get your anime girlfriend. Riveting.
