Today, I was honored to receive the 2025 #Geochemical Society’s Clair C. #Patterson Medal. This is a collective achievement of a large team of graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and colleagues has contributed to the collective research that is being acknowledged today.

Avner Vengosh, Erika Weinthal and Ginger Sigmon are part of a team looking to establish an interdisciplinary platform for research and education of critical minerals. The project was selected as one of three new hubs funded through the provost’s office. interdisciplinary.duke.edu/news/new-hubs-…

Avner Vengosh, Professor of Environmental Quality at Duke will receive the 2025 Clair C. Patterson Award. Vengosh is recognized for his work evaluating the impact of conventional and nonconventional energy development on environmental geochemistry, especially of water resources.

In our new paper, we rule out potential occurrence of #arsenic, other regulated contaminants, and acid mine wastes from #water-rock interactions in the #lithium legacy mine but show elevated Li, Rb, and Cs in associated water.

The Mosaic Company said Friday that heavy rains from #Hurricane #Milton overwhelmed a collection system at its Riverview phosphate mine, leaking wastewater into #TampaBay. The company said the leak was addressed Thursday and is not continuing.
