Gentlemen, let’s talk hygiene. I don’t care if you’re a teenager or a “more seasoned” man, hygiene is important and is not only important for health reasons, but also shows others that you are respectful and well put together. - You should be showering at least once per day. If you go to the gym or do labor intensive work, you should shower after before going into public. On training days, I will normally end up showering twice per day because of this. Stay away from heavily scented soaps and look for alternatives without all the chemicals. - Brush your teeth twice per day, once in the morning and once at night before bed. Mouthwash, flossing (or water pick), and occasional charcoal powder should be used as appropriate. - Wear deodorant. Natural and homemade alternatives exist. - Go EASY on the cologne. Two or three sprays of a high quality cologne is enough per application. Do not douse yourself. - If you have a beard, trim your neck and the top regularly. It doesn’t need to be everyday but don’t let yourself grow a neckbeard as it’s very unbecoming. If you have issues with irritation, use a trimmer for the neck (this is what I do) and a razor for the top of the beard on face. - Do not let your eyebrows merge. Either pluck it yourself or go to someone to have it done. - Stay on top of your haircuts. For some people, like myself, this means every week so it doesn’t look overgrown. You can even have your spouse shape up the back to buy you more time between cuts. - Wash your clothing and promptly dry them in a machine or hang them immediately. We can smell when you skip this step, and it’s disgusting. Stop being lazy. - Do not wear the same shoes all day long multiple days in a row. Just like trousers and suits, they need some time to breathe. This is why they are rotated to keep them from getting gross. To some, this may seem obvious but I ask that instead of leaving negative comments you instead offer additional advice and positivity to those who may have not known these things. It’s never too late to improve things like this and I hope that this helps someone out there.
