Real question, does america really think it has a chance at winning a world cup?

@xciteseeker @RasmusJarlov @OverEHill That’s for the entire roster, average starting XI for Croatia is 29.5 in this WC. Brazil is also old, I’ll take Pulisic or Weah running at Danilo all day We’ll see but given the US gets to rest all their starters in the 3rd group stage game I like their chances

Serious question for knowledgeable soccer fans. Is there any country you have seen play so far in the World Cup that you think no way the US team could hang with?

@JasonSt44940936 @RasmusJarlov @OverEHill I mean current form as literally the last month. I wouldn’t be saying this if it were three months ago. USA played Germany pretty evenly two matches ago and thrashed the best defensive team in South American qualifying Not saying the US are favorites. But 8/10 losers, no

@RasmusJarlov @OverEHill Croatia! A team with an average starting XI age of ~30 cant hang with the athleticism of the US over 90 minutes 8/10 times The point is that is in all previous WCs that # is 10/10 for some of those teams. I’d only put 🇫🇷🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇦🇷 as 80+% favorites on current form

Nobody who calls it soccer is knowledgeable about the sport. But here is from a football fan: France, England, Morocco, Argentina, Croatia, Brasil, Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Portugal will all win at least 8 out of 10 times against the USA. The USA is nowhere near the top teams.

@CincinnatiNews_ And none of that had anything to do with the convention center being remodeled? 3 sold out bananas games at GABP this weekend. Going to be a rough weekend for you with all of the commerce and activity going on Downtown. Fingers crossed you can post about some teens fighting!

No official agency publishes a single, real-time number tracking all total business closures specifically for Downtown Cincinnati and Over-the-Rhine (OTR) over the exact past six months. However, economic tracking reports and local business coverage highlight that the area's hospitality and retail sectors have experienced a noticeable wave of high-profile closures during the late 2025 and early 2026 window.

@dumbsillymfer @CincinnatiNews_ lol so many places opening up! None closing up. See liberal utopia

@CincinnatiNews_ Those places were sub-par compared to their competitors, this is capitalism, yeah? Morton's outclassed by Ruby's, now we have a Mi Cozumel instead of Taco Bell Cantina. Local options vs national chains, a win for downtown Do you track this in the aggregate? Closures vs openings

Vortex, Mexican restaurant on Main Street, Baru, Jimmy John's, Taco Bell Cantina, Alara, March First Brewing, Morton's Steakhouse, Bromwell's, CLOSED
eric@eric8374

@Yoyochitown @dumbsillymfer @CincinnatiNews_ The Roll, Brewd, Flight Club, Skyline, Mad Anthony’s all opening in the last few months in the heart of downtown/OTR just off the top of my head. You should check it out sometime and see what downtown is like outside of what Fox News twitter tells you

@CincinnatiNews_ I’ll use my eyes, thanks. How much time do you spend in urban Cincinnati? What % of non-petty crime do you think involves ppl that know each other? I’ve logged, idk, hundreds maybe thousands of miles walking over the last decade. Never even witnessed any significant violence

@CincinnatiNews_ And I write that not to diminish the impact of crime on the victims. My point is your entire fearmongering schtick isn’t about compassion. It’s about convincing ppl, who don’t know anyone down, here to be afraid of the urban center. And my eyes tell me that’s not reality

@CincinnatiNews_ I shop here (you don't), its soo much better on all levels than the old store on Vine in OTR. Also most of the subsidy is for the apts/garage. Structured parking like that costs >$30K a space to build. No significant modern structured parking is built in the US w/o subsidy

Yes, the downtown Cincinnati Kroger store is heavily subsidized: The downtown Cincinnati Kroger store (officially known as "Kroger on the Rhine") received heavy public subsidies for its development. While The Kroger Co. is a massive, publicly traded corporation that funds its own daily retail operations, the physical building, parking garage, and structural complex at Court and Walnut streets were built using a $90.6 million public-private financing package approved by the City of Cincinnati. New Markets Tax Credits: The $21.5 million grocery store portion utilized $2.5 million in federal and state New Markets Tax Credits. To qualify for these credits without being in a traditional low-income census tract, Kroger pledged that at least 60% of the store's 160 jobs would be filled by low-income residents. Tax-Increment Financing (TIF): The city established a TIF agreement allowing property taxes generated by the site to be directly funneled back into paying off the debt service and maintenance expenses of the development's parking garage. Property Tax Exemptions: The city council authorized two separate 15-year property tax exemptions to ease the long-term overhead costs for the developers managing the upper residential and parking structures. The Downtown Cincinnati Kroger store (Kroger on the Rhine) has faced several notable retail security, property crime, and public safety issues since its opening, forcing the company to heavily increase its on-site security presence.
