#USA — On May 25, 2020, 46 year old George Floyd was murdered by Minneapolis police. A police officer pressed his knee on the neck of Floyd, a Black security guard and father of two, for more than eight minutes. The killer officer, who already had 18 previous complaints against him, ignored Floyd’s words, “I can’t breathe” and “you’re going to kill me,” in front of cameras. Even after Floyd lost consciousness, he continued kneeling on his neck. Meanwhile, the other officers protected him while people around them recorded the incident and called for help. The murder of George Floyd reignited the Black Lives Matter movement, and the protests spread across the United States and many other countries. During this period, protesters faced violent attacks from police, the National Guard, and armed neo fascist white supremacist groups. Despite all the repression, the protests continued, and the scale of the demonstrations forced the state to step back. George Floyd’s killer was found guilty and sent to prison.
