Activist: "You kill animals. I don't." Farmer: "You eat bread?" Activist: "Sourdough." Farmer: "Where did the wheat come from?" Activist: "A farm." Farmer: "A ploughed field. Ploughed in spring, killing every vole, mouse, shrew, ground-nesting bird, and beetle that lived there over winter." Activist: "That's incidental." Farmer: "Every spring. Every August. The combine comes through at 12 mph and anything that hadn't already left gets mulched into the straw." Activist: "But I'm not killing them on purpose." Farmer: "You're paying someone to kill them on purpose. They just don't put it on the bag." Activist: "It's still less death than meat." Farmer: "A field of wheat feeds you for about ten days. A cow feeds you for six months. The vegan death toll per calorie is genuinely worse, you've just outsourced it to a machine." Activist: "I prefer the machine." Farmer: "I prefer the meadow that hasn't been ploughed in ninety years."

Telling an entire generation they're victims is the fastest way to rob them of their dignity. You can be a victim of something without making victimhood your identity. I despise victimhood with everything I've got, not because I don't recognize suffering, but because staying in that place makes you controllable.  And the people promoting it know that.

The people who did “use cases” and supported them, even to the extent of VC funding that junk, will slink back to the sewer they came from, believing everyone will just forget and move on. The damage they’ve done however will be carried forever by actual bitcoiners, (barring something something something) just as you were warned would be the case. Very evil and stupid people contributed to the Ordinals and Runes fads, and are 100% deserving of the hate that is due to them. Ordinals people are very bad, evil and unethical people. Shame on you. The stain and stench of what you’ve done will never leave you.

@jacekpac05 This makes the most sense to me, I don’t believe the law school she attends matters at all with her career goals. But it’s also hard to not encourage a child to pursue their dream.

Do I have any attorney followers? Question for you… would you go to a top 14 law school for full sticker if you had zero interest in big law? It’s her dream law school but 5x the cost of her other options and she wants to go into Trusts & Estate planning law.

If the alleged scene in the trailer is the one when the character says "Who's looking after your wife and son?", then that's not Achilles because he doesn't say anything like it in the original poem. But nobody else says anything like that either. Homer’s Greek has no such line, so we don't really know who Page is playing...

Over the weekend, online reports suggested that Achilles might be played by trans actor Elliot Page in the new film adaptation of The Odyssey. The idea isn't as outrageous as it seems, writes @SpencerKlavan 👇 buff.ly/87KaLFb

Casting these women as Greek heroes is a humiliation ritual. It’s about subverting western culture entirely. None of this is an accident.

Death of Hollywood. You won’t be missed. Stories used to be escape. Now they’re sermons. You pay to be insulted. It starts with the casting. Casting used to fit the character. Now it fits a quota. Cleopatra. Snape. Helen of Troy. And now Achilles. Can’t even. More effort goes into the race swap and the gender swap than into the story. Oh and screw the Greeks I guess. Thousands of cultures and thousands of years of human story treated like raw material for one narrow worldview, defined from one ivory tower in LA. Even the stories themselves are gone. Every blockbuster is a remake of a remake. IP recycled until the corpse stops twitching. Same trauma backstory. Same girlboss arc. Same bumbling boyfriend. Make sure while going into the quantum realm as ant-man you discuss the rent affordability crisis and how billionaires are evil. Like wtf. Indie films starve. Originality starves. The same six studios feed you the same six stories. Try to laugh at any of it and you get fired. Comedy died the day cancel culture was born. You can’t laugh anymore. Someone somewhere is crying. And it’s your fault. The funniest people in America haven’t been let in a writers room in a decade. And the ones still inside? They think they earned a pedestal. They didn’t. They got hired. Now they lecture you from it in $80,000 dresses about wealth inequality. Peter Dinklage built his career as Tyrion. Then he shamed Disney into deleting the dwarves from Snow White. The movie lost $115 million. Dwarves are fine when they pay him. Then they hand each other awards for it. Best Picture eligibility now requires a diversity checklist. Story comes second. They give each other gold statues for movies nobody watched. Studio heads say men have to be retrained to like their movies. You can’t force people to eat shit. Movies are escapes. Emotions. Other worlds. If I wanted to be miserable, I’d have just watched CNN or looked at my bank account after taxes. Entertain us or sit down.

Everyone's fighting about Achilles again. Whatever side you're on, most of the takes are flattening him into a meme. Let me remind you who he actually was. Achilles was raised by Chiron, the wisest of the centaurs, who taught him medicine, music, and philosophy alongside war. He could heal wounds and play the lyre. He was never just a killer. His mother, the sea goddess Thetis, knew the prophecy. He could live a long, peaceful life at home in obscurity, or die young at Troy and be remembered forever. He chose Troy. Knowing. When his best friend Patroclus was killed wearing his armor, Achilles' grief broke him. He tore his face. He poured ashes on his head. He refused to eat. Homer gives him the most devastating mourning scene in Western literature, and then Thetis appears and confirms it: if you go back to kill Hector, you will die soon after. He went back anyway. But here's the scene people forget, the one classicists call the moral heart of the Iliad. After killing Hector and dragging his body around the walls of Troy, Achilles is visited at midnight, alone in his tent, by Hector's elderly father, King Priam. Priam, the father of the man Achilles killed, kneels and kisses "the terrible, man-slaying hands that had killed so many of his sons." And Achilles weeps. They weep together. He lifts the old king up, feeds him, gives him a bed for the night, and returns Hector's body for burial with full honors. He even pauses the war so the Trojans can mourn. That's how the Iliad ends. Not a duel. Not a sack. An act of mercy between two grieving men. This is why, six centuries later, Alexander the Great sailed to Troy, anointed himself with oil, ran a footrace around Achilles' tomb, and slept every night with a dagger and a copy of the Iliad under his pillow. This is why the Greek word for hero, hērōs, was practically synonymous with his name. He chose to die for his friend. He wept with his enemy's father. He's been a hero for 2,700 years for a reason.

This is the ultimate midwit healthcare take. No, 32 countries have not “figured out” universal healthcare. The UK has “free” healthcare, and roughly 1 in 3 cancer patients in England still fail to start treatment within 62 days of urgent referral. Canada has “free” healthcare, and the median wait for neurosurgical treatment is around a year. Australia has “free” healthcare, and over half the country still buys private insurance despite paying for a public universal system with their taxes. Switzerland has universal coverage, because residents are required to buy private insurance. There is no government system where benevolent bureaucrats tuck you in at night with a warm blanket and an MRI appointment. The actual lesson from other wealthy countries is not “they figured it out.” America’s system has huge problems. Our prices are insane, insurance markets are distorted, and hospital systems are cartelized. Our regulations make care more expensive than it needs to be. Yet we still guarantee access to even the 8% who don’t have coverage. We give easy routes to qualify for medicaid for those with disabilities. Pretending the rest of the world solved healthcare because they slapped the word “universal” on a rationing scheme is not analysis. It is bumper sticker policy for people who think access means having a card in your wallet while you wait a year to see the doctor you need.
daz@MetamateDaz

Free Universal Healthcare is so complicated and expensive that only 32 of the 33 wealthiest countries in the world have figured it out.

The reason so many invest in real estate & price out young people is that inflation makes the dollar & savings accounts useless so everyone needs to use their home as a saving account instead. Monetary policy is the problem, but like all lefties in human history you are programmed by your banker owners to never even notice this, let alone speak about it, and instead go after actually productive people to ensure they remain ground under the heels of your owners.
