After reviewing data from nearly 200 studies and 30 million cells, researchers created a human cell atlas with genetic insight about how the neocortex, or outer layers of the brain, forms during development. Learn more here: hopkinsmedicine.org/news/newsroom/…

The neurodegenerative condition chronic traumatic encephalopathy appears to be driven by damage to the blood-brain barrier due to repetitive head injuries, like those that occur in boxing. This suggests that drugs that strengthen this barrier could ... #Echobox=1774261590" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">newscientist.com/article/251975…

Neuralink is making big upgrades to the N1 brain implant
It still runs 1,024 electrodes, but the architecture has evolved from patient feedback:
• New setup: 128 ultra‑thin threads (8 electrodes each)
Original setup: 64 threads (16 electrodes each)
• The speed breakthrough: thread insertion time cut from ~17 seconds to ~1.5 seconds per thread
This redesign comes straight from real patient data and early trial feedback, enabling higher precision, richer neural signals, and better long‑term stability
Neuralink is becoming a real second chance for many lives

“We’ve thought about Alzheimer’s disease as a brain-only problem, and the field has largely shifted now to recognize that brain health is dynamic and interconnected across almost every single organ system.” - BrightFocus Foundation’s Dr. Sharyn Rossi
These connections represent new opportunities for Alzheimer’s risk reduction and intervention.
BrightFocus was thrilled to join the Society for Neuroscience (SfN) Annual Meeting 2025, the world’s largest gathering of neuroscientists dedicated to understanding the brain and nervous system.
