We’ve been quiet for too long. It’s vital now more than ever that classrooms have HEPA purifiers and Co2 monitors in every room. Protecting education is paramount so let’s make it safer. We shouldn’t have to choose between education and health.

19/ Or search many more resources (using 'Cntrl-F') for "CO2" on the (1) Reports, Guides, Tools; (2) Media; or (5) Threads tabs here: bit.ly/3fzmB16

16/One way to think about indoor CO2 concentrations is to consider the "rebreathed fraction". For every ~400 ppm above the baseline (usually also ~400 ppm), 1% of your air is '#rebreathed' from someone else's exhaled air. E.g. via @CorsIAQ: twitter.com/CorsIAQ/status…
Richard Corsi, PhD, PE (Texas)@CorsIAQ

2/ RF can be calculated as RF = (CO2in - CO2out)/CO2breath Here CO2in is CO2 concentration in the indoor space, CO2out is the outdoor CO2 concentration, and CO2breath is the typical CO2 concentration on human breath (around 36,000 to 38,000 ppm) w/ some variation by diet, etc.

11/ But #CO2 monitors are not just for school. I've loaned mine out to friends who have had fun seeing the invisible trends in various places they go. Here is one set of anecdotes on how I played around with CO2 sensors in school, at work, and at home: twitter.com/HuffmanLabDU/s…

1/ A 🧵 on some #CO2 measurements in my home, car, school *AND* details/instruction on how to use dry ice for DIY estimate of #ventilation rates at your home or as a school project. Highlights in thread & gathered together in the linked doc 👇. #COVIDCO2 docs.google.com/presentation/d…

10/ Once you've collected your data, make sure to share using the hashtag #COVIDCO2 and peruse for further ideas & support (Thx @mdc_martinus!). Some have also used #SchoolCO2. twitter.com/mdc_martinus/s…

Great to see #covidCO2 mentioned in The New York Times! It began as an idea, 14 months ago, and it is slowly growing into an international movement of "guerilla air-monitoring". We better keep doing it if we want to incite governments to do something about #SafeIndoorAir!

9/ There are lots of creative ways that people have been using as they send CO2 monitors: twitter.com/HuffmanLabDU/s…

Sending a #CO2 monitor with a kid to school is one way to get a rough idea of the ventilation quality. Curious to hear your simple or sneaky strategies of how you've sent a #COVIDCO2 monitor. (DIY innovations aren't just for people making a #CorsiRosenthalBox for filtration. 😉)

8/ I've been encouraging parents who want to send a CO2 sensor with a child to make sure they don't push a child past their comfort zone. Make sure the sensor won't be a distraction during the day. And it's important that the parent, not the student, bear the responsibility.

6/ Gathering CO2 data is often discouraged, however: “It’s possible that the school district may not be all that happy with this because I think it gives us a window into the fact that they may not actually be treating ventilation as seriously as they should be,” Dr. Huffman said
