Caden was our #1 arm last year. Threw a ton of quality innings and is back this year to continue being a key piece of our pitching staff. Hard worker, great student and A+ human being

A look at the @Pirates 13th rd pick: 5'10" RHP Dylan Mathieson.
Here's a throwback to 2 years ago, when he went from topping 88 to perhaps the easiest 94 we'd ever seen.
Awesome seeing a kid that so few would have considered a draft prospect make it into the professional ranks.

The only chance most of us have of reaching ambitious goals, in sports or life, is to go all in.
I didn't have 1-in-10,000 genetics - heck, I threw 73 mph when I was 15.
I knew my only chance to play professionally was to minimize the distractions - to laser focus for a decade, if that’s what it took.
I made up my mind at 15, and I went all in.
-At 15 I threw 70-73. No offspeed. Terrible command.
-At 18 I had zero college offers. I took a chance and enrolled at a D1, then walked on that fall throwing 85.
-From 18-21 I rode the bench, but kept working.
-At 22 I was drafted, touching 95.
-At 24 injuries caught up, and I was released.
-At 25 I got elbow surgery, and returned sitting 96-98+ as a sidearm lefty.
-From 25-31 I had 5 surgeries trying to make it back.
I didn't make it.
But I came relatively close to achieving an objectively unreasonable goal set by an untalented 15-year-old kid.
Not by following the 99%.
Not by simply being born better than everyone else.
But by staying laser-focused on a singular mission, far beyond when any reasonable person would have thrown in the towel.
After nearly 2 decades in pursuit of that goal, it can sometimes still be challenging to go to a big league game and see others living the dream that I chased for so long.
But I can look myself in the mirror, without regret, knowing that I went all in.
I gave myself the best chance with the information I had at my disposal at each step.
That's really all you can control at the end of the day.

Less than a month working with @TJPruett2310 and I have already made some large improvements stemming from mechanical changes and getting stronger which led me to hitting a PR yesterday of 92. I am excited to start live abs here soon against @MASH__BASEBALL college hitters.

Really proud of the growth this group showed over the course of the 2025 season.
- Top 25 in the NJCAA in K’s & K/9.
- Multiple velocity increases.
- 100% success return to throw from previous surgeries & arm injuries.
