My name is Cecily and I'm a working class lesbian author who grew up in Manchester during a period of turbulence and social change. In my memoirs, I focus on my life in London as I struggle to assert myself as part of the newly established LGBTQ+ community.

Prisoners from Lancaster castle were forced to walk in shackles, the 283 miles from Lancaster to Portsmouth before being shipped aboard to live and die in bondage. This poor soul who was only ever known as the impostress was shipped to Virginia in the US.

As part of LGBT history month this is a true and quite unknown story of a woman, who in August 1751 became known as the impostress when she appeared on trial at Lancaster castle, accused of marrying seven women. This is a brief description from 'The Gentleman's' magazine.

The first six were 'virgins' but the seventh was a widow had been married twice before and so uncovered the impostresses secret, according to court records. Like more than 300.000 white Britons in the 17th&18th centuries, the impostress was sentenced to life as a slave in America
