@bexxtraa @ilyaslestat I agree! When I read I want to separate myself from the situation to immerse myself in the story- it’s really disorienting to read the story when it’s in first person.

@ilyaslestat I do not like first person pov. Never have. I don't want to BE the main character in these stories. I want to imagine myself a side character, watching someone else's story play out. I want to be a fly on the wall. Theres nothing wrong with first person pov. I just wont read it.

@Shadow003172022 @ilyaslestat I respectfully disagree, I think it really depends on the fanfic- I’ve read some really great stories that the characters have almost nothing in common with their original versions.

@ilyaslestat Fanfics based on pre-existing series/films that actually try to stick to the characters’ canon personalities are far more interesting than fanfics that warp said characters beyond recognition

@cody_witch @ilyaslestat It is a bit annoying when the writer just skips the character development phase- however if they have a good explanation like mind control magic or something it can work… usually it’s just up to how good the writing is.

@ilyaslestat Fics that are 'enemies to lovers' where they do genuinely horrible things to each other, then immediately jump to being lovers with very little build up, and then completely ignore the horrible things they did to each other. Like, i want at least some acknowledgement of it!!

@crumplelush @ilyaslestat I think it’s ok if you do it right- a good writer will put the intention/tone of the character + what the mc is thinking they might be saying in the text. Another way to convey this is having another character translate what they’re saying to the mc who doesn’t understand.

@ilyaslestat If you put dialogue in the fic in another language without providing an in-text translation (not in the notes at the end) then that’s bad writing. If you want the reader to know something you need to provide that information without them hunting for it and breaking immersion
