@Manhattva If you call it that, it sounds like it should be faster than highing judging purely by the name, but the twinkling of an eye is a lot faster than Mach 32

We need a new scientific term for going at speeds beyond hypersonic. I proposed that we call any speed above Mach 32, “Godspeed” It evokes the memory of Walter Cronkite’s statement as John Glen lifted off into space, And it’s the speed required to reach the nearest heavenly body (the Moon)

Rough drawing, but this is the sort of vibe I want to see in an underwater survival game. Stuck at the bottom of the ocean taking shelter in the kelp trees, barred from access to the surface by angry space whales.

I think it’s fine if it’s done well, but most authors are way too confident in their political opinions to do it well. People will write worlds that mimic our political and social landscape with no concept of why our society is the way it is. It’s stupidly difficult to pull it off, especially without the validating power of retrospect.

Massively based. I've never met anyone who likes reading books for the author's personal politics. When trying to enjoy a story and then the author starts "preaching" to me, intellectually feels like they're trying to slip their hand under my clothes. So they can get off on how much "smarter" they are than me, the reader, and I'm just there to facilitate their self-serving superiority fantasy. A colossal turn-off.

Project Hail Mary writer Andy Weir on social commentary in books: "I dislike social commentary. Like… I really hate it. When I’m reading a book, I just want to be entertained, not preached at by the author. Plus, it ruins the wonder of the story if I know the author has a political or social axe to grind. I no longer speculate about all possible outcomes of the story because I know for a fact that the universe of that book will conspire to ensure that the author’s political agenda is validated. I hate that." "I put no politics or social commentary into my stories at all. Anyone who thinks they see something like that is reading it in on their own. I have no point to make, and I’m not trying to affect the reader’s opinion on anything. My sole job is to entertain, and I stick to that." "To that end, I also don’t talk about my personal political opinions publicly. I don’t want readers to even know, honestly. I don’t want that in the back of their minds as they read my stuff." Is this why he has the #1 sci-fi movie in decades?

Can a piece of art ever be redeemed if it was conceived in a bout of insanity, or shall it be forever tainted by a moments ill intent?

@YeetTsavo That’s a whole other thing. I’m talking about those posts that I’ll see once, not see again for months, and then they reappear. The most recent I saw was this snapping turtle eating a fish yesterday. I’ve seen it a couple of times.

Do y’all have that one set of posts that keeps reappearing in your feed no matter how much time passes? Or is it just me? Do you know what I’m talking about?

There’s, like, a bajillion no experience required sales jobs around Provo. If I could talk to strangers, I’d never have to worry about being broke.

Am I weird for thinking and feeling a bit strange whenever I hear someone say insults towards people? Just general slander? I have a feeling it’s my liberal side that I haven’t confronted yet. I have that same feeling when something like “I hate Satan” is said, but I (1/3)

This pretty much encapsulates my problem with this sort of issue perfectly. Who among us who isn’t Calvinist is going to bother reading a book on Calvinism? Most people who criticize Mormonism have never read the Book of Mormon. Most people in general have never diligently read the Bible cover to cover. Nobody who doesn’t actively believe in a religion sufficiently understands it from the perspective of people who do. Every denomination uses philosophical theories and flowery semantics to try and fill in the gaps between what we mortals can comprehend and what God actually is. We paint pictures of what “must” be true about the divine lest some vague passage of scripture, interpreted in a very specific way, be contradicted somehow.

@CrispyJrIII @ThoughtfulSaint Most people who rail against Calvinism haven't bothered to read a single book about it or even sufficiently understand it. That's why James White was so frustrated with the debate and had that epic rant. He's so frustrated a caricature of Calvinism was argued against.

Does James White worship a different Jesus? “God has the perfect right to do with His creation (including men)… sinners upon whom God’s wrath comes… they are said to have been specifically “prepared for destruction.” That is their purpose.” - James White

On the bright side, I now know that getting stung by a wasp really doesn’t hurt all that bad. I almost got stung by a bee one time, and even touching that thing hurt WAY worse. Poor little guy was dying on my soccer net and I accidentally slapped it grabbing onto the strings.

Life recap: - I had a crippling fear of the dark that kept me awake at night for years of my childhood - My coping mechanism ended up turning into a mildly traumatic p*rn addiction as I gif puberty, destroying any desire I might have had to ever have sex in real life, - My anxiety got significantly worse as a result - I developed some kind of acne like infection on the bottom of my unmentionable which keeps coming back, further inflating my fear of sex - I got warts on my foot that were extremely painful to treat, and I’m only 64% sure they’re actually gone even now - My faith started a slow downward spiral that has at long last started to hit the point where it’s hard to pray - My motivation to do well in school completely abandoned me two weeks ago after three years of waning - All my friends keep disappearing - I got fired from my student job for withdrawing from too many classes yesterday with no forewarning, having forgotten about the credit requirement if I ever knew it was a thing to begin with - I spent a long day today floundering and feeling too scared to watch general conference -And then I went to bed hoping for a slightly better day tomorrow only for this little guy to stab me in the stomach IN my bed after I turned out the lights, after which I accidentally killed him, which I feel bad about. This is the second room wasp this week, which is concerning. I’m gonna be paranoid about bed wasps forever now. All said and done, I’m lazy now, and I don’t feel capable of accomplishing anything I want to accomplish. I feel as though I should be kinda miserable. Maybe it is miserable, but it doesn’t feel that bad anymore, so I lack the motivation as well as the means to fix it all. I feel like that lobster put into the pot, set to boil too slowly for me to feel all the pain of dying a horrible death. It could be a lot worse 🤷‍♂️
