$SPX continues its relentless parabolic rally, pushing to new all-time highs at 7,609. Momentum indicators remain tightly locked in extreme overbought territory, signaling intense buying pressure with no signs of rolling over yet. The epic melt-up continues. 10 places to visit if you want to understand Lisbon 🇵🇹 If you’re coming for a few days and want to see more than the basic tourist route, save this list. 1. Alfama Start with the oldest part of Lisbon. Alfama is narrow streets, tiled walls, laundry on balconies, small restaurants, viewpoints, and fado coming from tiny local places at night. Walk without a strict route. Good stops nearby: • Miradouro de Santa Luzia • Miradouro das Portas do Sol • Lisbon Cathedral • Museu do Fado This is where Lisbon feels the most local. 2. Castelo de São Jorge Go here for the view and the history. The castle sits above the city and gives you one of the best looks over Lisbon’s red rooftops, the Tagus River, Alfama, and Baixa. It’s a good place to understand how the city was built around hills, defense, and the river. Tip: go early or closer to sunset. 3. Praça do Comércio One of the most important squares in Lisbon. It opens directly to the Tagus River and gives you the feeling of Lisbon as a port city. This area was rebuilt after the 1755 earthquake, so it’s also a good place to understand how Lisbon changed after one of the biggest events in its history. Walk from Praça do Comércio through Rua Augusta into Baixa. 4. Convento do Carmo One of the most powerful places in the city. Carmo Convent was damaged during the 1755 earthquake and was never fully rebuilt. Today, the open roof and Gothic arches make it one of Lisbon’s most memorable historical sites. It’s not a huge visit, but it tells a lot. History, architecture, ruins, and silence in the middle of the city. 5. Jerónimos Monastery If you visit one major monument in Lisbon, make it this one. Jerónimos Monastery is one of the strongest symbols of Portugal’s Age of Discoveries and Manueline architecture. The details, arches, cloisters, and scale make it worth the trip to Belém. Pair it with Pastéis de Belém nearby if you want the full classic Lisbon stop. 6. Belém Tower Belém Tower is one of Lisbon’s most recognizable landmarks. It was built near the river and is closely tied to Portugal’s maritime history. You don’t need to spend too long here. The best part is the outside view, the river walk, and the feeling of being in the part of Lisbon connected to explorers, ships, and global routes. Best paired with Jerónimos Monastery and MAAT. 7. National Tile Museum This is one of the best museums to understand Lisbon visually. Azulejos are everywhere in Portugal, on buildings, churches, metro stations, restaurants, and homes. The National Tile Museum explains where this tile culture comes from and why it became such a big part of Portuguese identity. If you like design, history, or architecture, don’t skip it. 8. Calouste Gulbenkian Museum A calmer, deeper museum stop. Gulbenkian is great if you want art, gardens, and a break from the busy center. The collection is broad, with pieces from different cultures and time periods. It’s not only about Lisbon, but it gives you a more cultural, slower side of the city. Good for a quiet morning or afternoon. 9. MAAT MAAT is Lisbon’s modern side. The building itself is already worth seeing, with its curved architecture by the river. Inside, you’ll find exhibitions around art, architecture, and technology. It’s a good contrast after Belém’s historic monuments. Old Lisbon, then new Lisbon, all in one area. 10. Time Out Market End with food. Time Out Market is busy, touristy, and still useful if you want to try many Lisbon flavors in one place. You can find Portuguese dishes, seafood, pastries, wine, and restaurants from known local chefs. It’s not the most hidden spot, but it works well when you have limited time and want an easy food stop. If you only have one day Do this route: Alfama Castelo de São Jorge Praça do Comércio Carmo Convent Time Out Market If you have two days Add Belém: Jerónimos Monastery Belém Tower MAAT Pastéis de Belém If you have three days Add museums: National Tile Museum Calouste Gulbenkian Museum Museu do Fado Lisbon is best when you don’t rush it. Walk the hills, follow the river, look at the tiles, stop for coffee, and leave space for places you didn’t plan. That’s usually where the city gets interesting.
