@patty_b519 He doesn't pick young players. He prioritises workhorses over actual talent. 3-5-2 merchant, which we've seen isn't a successful way of playing at the top level. The Euro 2016 performances were largely very shit. The Spain second round game was excellent, the rest were rubbish

@buromomento Ruggeri isn't eligible for the U-21s. Cambiaso is rubbish, not good enough and one of the many examples why Italy aren't very good. He's not better than Ruggeri. Calafiori isn't really a left back. Not in the way Italy want to play, anyway. So it's just Dimarco and Udogie

@DavidLSwan In a generation lacking talent, LB and LWB are the only two positions where Italy has an abundance of good players. Di Marco, Calafiori, Cambiaso, Udogie just to name a few. Even Bartesaghi is ahead of Ruggeri in the U21 selection currently

Deluded. We haven't won the U-21 Euros since 2004. Haven't made the final since 2013. Three U-19 finals since 2008. Sounds great, right? England also have three, France have four, Portugal five, Spain seven (!!). Italy are not producing enough top players

Italy doesn’t have a talent problem, they have a development problem and I’ll tell you why. They always do decently well in the Youth tournaments. Where we see players like Kayode, Bartesaghi, Liberali, Fagioli, Hasa, Ricci, Casadei, and many others play well. 1/2

He's right but also.....Gattuso is a bad coach. He needs to go. Changing coach won't solve everything - as we've seen with Spalletti. Ultimately you need good players and Italy don't have them. But there's absolutely no chance of getting back to the top tier with a poor coach

Italy going through a terrible period. Just have to wait it out until some good players come through. There is not enough talent in the XI, let alone the squad, to avoid situations like a World Cup playoff against Bosnia

Ruggeri should be getting called up. One of the few Italian players who is actually playing regular Champions League football. Otherwise it's about what you'd expect. I think Ricci is better than quite a lot of those midfielders and should also be in

The same Boniface who has now had to undergo yet another surgery on his right knee (I've lost count how many he's up to) after struggling with it up until December. Think I'll trust the Milan medical staff on this one, thank you

Not the first time Milan does this. They did the same with Boniface last summer, and this is just an excuse. They couldn't sell Gimenez, Boniface failed his medical. Now they couldn't offload Nkunku, Mateta fails his medical. The dirty way of doing business.
