The Komodo dragon is one of the most dinosaur-like-looking creatures alive. It can swallow a live goat whole — and breathe while doing it. As the prey fills its throat, a dedicated breathing tube beneath the tongue connects directly to the lungs, functioning like a biological snorkel. The throat can be completely blocked, and the Komodo dragon breathes on, unbothered. Their metabolism is equally extraordinary. A single large kill can sustain them for an entire month. In this video, you will notice there is very little biting to subdue the goat — because the Komodo dragon does not need to. Venom glands deliver a slow, lethal dose into the prey, doing the work from within. Once the prey is dead, the dragon can digest almost every part of it — bones, hide, and all — except hair and feathers. Perhaps most remarkable is their ability to reproduce without mating. Female Komodo dragons can produce offspring entirely on their own through a process called parthenogenesis — an evolutionary adaptation to the challenge of finding mates across isolated islands...
