Many of you may have seen this image from earlier today, and would have been rightfully disturbed. There was no excuse for it. None. The IDF has already confirmed that the soldier who tied the wounded Palestinian combatant to the front of their military vehicle acted against army protocols. The troops in question were engaged in combat in the Wadi Burqin area, near Jenin, to detain wanted Palestinians. During the operation, the IDF says troops returned fire at terrorists who shot at them. One of the gunmen was shot and detained, and then tied to the vehicle's hood. The IDF has already said the soldiers acted "contrary to orders and procedures” and that “the conduct seen in the video is not consistent with the IDF's orders and what is expected of its soldiers.” The wounded Palestinian was subsequently handed over to the Red Crescent for treatment. The IDF added the "incident is being investigated and will be dealt with accordingly." What happened was entirely unacceptable and inexcusable. It should however be noteworthy that the IDF has immediately acknowledged this action was against protocol, has condemned it and initiated an urgent investigation. That is how armies in democracies work.

Relieved that four hostages have been released. Israel could have freed all hostages, alive and intact, 8 months ago when the first ceasfire and hostage exchange was put on the table.
