US-59 Traffic Changes Coming in March
Starting March 2026, TxDOT will begin the next phase of construction near the Brazos River Bridge, including work on the northbound lanes and frontage road.
We know traffic changes can be frustrating, especially for daily commuters, but these repairs are needed now to address erosion near the bridge and prevent larger disruptions in the future.
Here’s what residents should know:
-The bridge is safe to use
-Businesses in River Park and Greatwood remain OPEN
-Access to parks and neighborhoods will be maintained
-Detours and signage will be in place to help guide drivers
What will change:
-Traffic pattern on the northbound main lanes
-No access to the northbound feeder road over the Brazos River
-Heavier northbound traffic during morning and evening commute
-Detours for drivers exiting Greatwood via Riverbrook Dr.
-Brazos River Park access via the feeder road is restricted—please use University Blvd for Brazos River Park and Crown Festival Park
Estimated timeline:
-March 2026 — Work starts
-March 2027 — Frontage road completion
-December 2027 — Project completion
(Schedules may adjust due to weather or field conditions)
The City of Sugar Land is working closely with TxDOT, schools, emergency services, and regional partners to help reduce impacts and keep traffic moving as safely as possible.
Thank you for your patience as this work helps keep one of our region’s busiest corridors safe and reliable for years to come.
