A great little grouo of #flies for #flyfriday, and on top of that we have another new species sonce printing the poster! But @Gen_Theron is more organized than I am. It was up at #ICDX but I forgot to take a photo. Maximizing viewership with tactical reuse!

For #flyFriday here is my poster from my recent #essa23 conference that also travelled to Reno to be at #ICDX with @JohnMMidgley #Diptera #Stratiomyidae #Nyassamyia #beeMimics

What do you call a fly without wings? OK, it's got little stubby wings, but a fly that can't fly is still pretty cool! High altitude (>3000m) habitats make for strange adaptations!

For the first time, the female of Atherimorpha latipennis is described, along with a redescription of the male and colour photographs: doi.org/10.3897/arphap… #flies #Diptera #entomology @JohnMMidgley @FlyguyZA

Spending #flyfriday at the National Museum in Bloemfontein with @FlyguyZA working through a few 1000 flies from Lesotho. With a bit of special focus on the Atherimorpha latipennis (Rhagionidae), busy describing the female for the first time. #diptera #flies #fly

Slightly early for #flyfriday, but having just finished fieldwork for the austral summer, it feels appropriate. oNgoye forest in KZN, where we turned up the first Myolepta for RSA and the first female Mesembrius ingratus ever. A great end! Thanks to all who helped this year!

After lots of fun in the field, today was mainly spent identifying #flies using the Manual of Afrotropical #Diptera family key. We have lots of specimens from the @kznmuseum and @africamuseumbe collections to add to what was collected yesterday! @NRF_News @belspo

Busy training 12 early career entomologists to ID flies (particularly pollinating families) in KZN, 🇿🇦. Ten days of collecting, pinning and identification. Part of the DIPTATEACH project, a collab between @kznmuseum @africamuseumbe and @MuseumAlbany, funded by @NRF_News & @belspo
