In Coffs Harbour, the local council held two plebiscites during council elections: Fluoride in the water — A clear majority of residents voted against it. The NSW State Government overruled the vote and forced fluoridation anyway. Jetty Foreshores development — Residents voted against any residential development. The state government and both major parties have ignored the result and are pushing the development forward. Twice the people were asked. Twice they gave a clear answer. Twice that answer was ignored. This is how democracy actually works in Australia today — your vote is purely advisory. The state decides, regardless of what the public says.
