What happened to Zelda really saddens me. Fans of the original games and fans of the wild era games are fans of completely different things, and it so happens that the most popular games by far the the wild era ones, so 70% of Zelda “fans” have no love for the soul of the series.

Since so many have asked, I have made a tier list on the hierarchy of games. The 3 games I consider to be required to call yourself a fan is Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, and A Link to the Past.

@DercusPercus I did just slap this together but TOTK should go down. However, if more games are taking design cues from it (like how Echoes of Wisdom did) then it would justify its placement.

@ForgedJavelins The tier list isn't about how good the games are, it is about how instrumental it is to understanding the series. I love Four Swords Adventures, but its definitely not a necessary game to play.

I don’t care if you’ve played a few games, a handful, 10+, the entire series plus spin offs, etc etc etc. If you have played multiple Zelda games and absolutely loved them - you can call yourself a Zelda fan. This franchise has a rich 40 year history and everyone games at different rates and different times in their life.
Majora’s Mask is awesome, but who cares if they never played it until December of last year? Why does this matter?
Gate keeping fandoms is terrible.
