Reds HS Showcase@redshsshowcase

The Skyline Chili Reds Futures High School Showcase presented by PNC gears back up Saturday, the first of three consecutive days of high school baseball and softball featuring 10 games during that period.   It starts Saturday morning with the annual celebration of Jackie Robinson Day in the Showcase, with four baseball and two softball games played at the P&G MLB Cincinnati Reds Youth Academy.   On April 15, 1947, Jackie Robinson broke baseball’s color barrier when he made his historic MLB debut. Every year on that date, MLB honors Jackie’s legacy by celebrating his life, values and accomplishments.       Every year since 2004, MLB has dedicated April 15 as Jackie Robinson Day and, since 2009, requested that every player and on-field personnel wear his No. 42 during all games scheduled on this date.   Five of the six games at the Reds Youth Academy Saturday involve Cincinnati Public Schools.  Aiken opposes Spencer in the opening game at 11 a.m. on Field #2, followed by Gamble Montessori versus Withrow at 2 on that same field.   Two softball games on Field #4 begin at 11:30 a.m., with Oyler facing Withrow followed by Aiken taking on Western Hills at 2:30 in the annual Gabby Rodriguez Game, which honors the life and legacy of the former Western Hills and RBI player whose life was cut tragically short by a hit-and-run accident in September 2018.   Bishop Fenwick of the Greater Catholic League Co-Ed Division plays Middletown of the Greater Miami Conference at noon on Field #2, with CPS and Cincinnati Metro Athletic Conference member Hughes versus Shroder to follow at 3.   The day also features the annual HBCU Joe Morgan Classic with Wilberforce University playing Ohio Christian at 1 p.m. on the Stadium Field, Field #1.  The event honors the Negro League during the anniversary week of Jackie Robinson breaking the MLB color barrier.    Showcase games continue Sunday with a softball doubleheader at Milford High School in Miami Township, with Milford taking on Mount Notre Dame in the first game at 1 p.m., followed by Kings against Williamsburg at 3.   On Monday, the Showcase makes its stop in Southeast Indiana with a baseball DH at Lawrenceburg High School.  Batesville meets East Central in the first game at 5 p.m., followed by the host Tigers against South Dearborn at 7:30.   For the complete Showcase schedule, visit reds.com/hsshowcase.
