Francesco Farioli's OGC Nice. My latest piece is now live, as I take a look at Francesco Farioli's Nice and what has made them so good thus far. All likes, RTs and follows greatly appreciated. @GeorgeCScouting/francesco-fariolis-ogc-nice-d825bc74476c" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">medium.com/@GeorgeCScouti

@gillikas I think it’s all on putting yourself in positions to. For me personally I coach the foundation phase U6-U11 and I love it. Get so much joy out of working with that age group, and have had many ‘lucky breaks’ because I’m persistent and constantly around it.

@GeorgeCScouting Agreed. What will it take (from a coaches pov) to get more of those lucky breaks in leading/coaching senior sides? Esp when there’s so many top coaches who are responsible for the talent we currently have

There’s a real glorification of foreign youth systems in England currently, a lot of which is stemming from the current La Liga futures tournament and the publicity it’s gained. I don’t think enough people understand academy football in this country to comment on it personally.

Factor in the coaches, some of which are working in academy football, others coaching privately, but there’s some sensational coaches providing resources to the next generation. Personally believe the next gen are in the safest hands.

I’m involved daily with academy players and setups and can honestly say this country possesses some of the best youth players in the world, some of the best academies in the world and the depth of talent across the categories is incredible.

In life we must fight, not just for what is hard, but for what is right. Why should a man’s decision be decided by another’s nostrils, well let me tell you, it takes only one crow to alert the crop. I sharnt be the first nor the last to confront the endless abyss of a kebabless life, but I can’t help but feel my life has built to this decisive moment of defiance. A kebab is a choice, a form of life, and maybe even love. For who did I know longer, for who was there for me in my loneliest nights? My girlfriend? Ha. Long before that it was of course, the kebab. So I write this with pride, to announce on behalf of all men, kebabs are a right, one which cannot be abstained. Tonight I shall order a kebab. And despite the morning of consequence, I will never stop the fight. Peace and love to all x

Distances between the lines aren’t even compact. Think this is really amateurish from Arteta. Direct ball’s into a forward Havertz/Gyok -> set into a forward facing midfielder. Even if it just disrupts with no real success. It’ll have a long term effect

Every player can do sessions and train with coaches, but can you take away details from sessions and practice on your own? That’s where the real value is.

I like Joner and a lot of their stuff but this is very wrong. I’ve trained hundreds of kids at the elite level of the foundation phase. The best are often the often the ones that put in the most unstructured hours.

🚫 Your academy's best player isn't actually the most talented ‼️ He's the one whose parents invested in private coaching outside team training. That's the reality nobody wants to say out loud. Individual development beats group sessions every single time. What's holding your best players back?

@CameronMoulton6 Pickford James Maguire/Konsa dependant on opp. Guehi Hall Rice Bellingham Palmer Saka Kane Rashford. Think the midfield 3 works particularly in group/early stages and then bring Anderson in for latter stars if we need more duelling quality. Would potentially take Henderson.

@GeorgeCScouting Nice squad mate! My only reservation is if there's another defensive skill in that midfield group. What would your starting 11 be?

Every time I’ve watched England Under-21s train at home or abroad over the past five years, Ashley Cole was out there early, laying out the balls and cones (pic below), discussing the session with the head coach Lee Carsley. He gave individual instruction to defenders like Levi Colwill and Tino Livramento. They spoke highly of Cole’s counsel and desire to improve them as players. His work ethic and humility inspired them. In matches, Cole would sort the subs with the fourth official. No airs or graces, even though Cole was a genuine superstar as a player. He was the most consistent of the Golden Generation, England’s greatest ever left-back, seventh on his country’s all-time appearance list with 107 caps, winner of seven trophies with Arsenal, nine with Chelsea. He stood up to Cristiano Ronaldo and Arjen Robben. He nailed his two shootout penalties in the 2008 and 2012 UCL finals. He was an elite competitor and winner. After retiring at 38, Cole could have played golf or gone into punditry. Instead, he’s built a coaching career. Along with some other reporters, I helped Cole do the media module of his Pro Licence at St George’s Park. Cole's attention to detail and desire to deliver in his second career was very clear to us. Cole worked his way up, assisting Frank Lampard at Derby, coaching in Chelsea’s academy when Lampard went to the Bridge, and then assisting Lampard at Everton. He assisted Wayne Rooney at Birmingham City. He also assisted Carsley in his six games as caretaker of England’s seniors before becoming a full-time FA coach. Cole, 45, now takes on his first managerial role – at Cesena in Serie B. It’s only until the end of June but an experience, an education and with the possibility of a longer stay. Good luck to Cole. He’s earned the opportunity. He’s grafted for it.

The Rice vs Fernandes debate makes no sense by the way. Rice much better off the ball, Fernandes much better in possession. All the troubles we had under Moyes progressing the ball, would’ve been solved with Fernandes. A Fernandes - Rice pivot is top 2 in the league.
