🚨A recent U.S. airstrike in, Somalia’s Puntland State Calmiskaad Mountains has once again brought to light the long-standing tensions between the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and the Puntland State. In separate statements, both Villa Somalia and Puntland State House expressed appreciation for U.S. support. However, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has yet to acknowledge Puntland’s military operation, which has entered its 2nd phase. His official statement made no mention of Puntland’s role. According to reliable sources, President Hassan Sheikh and Puntland President Said Deni have had no direct communication during the operation. Moreover, the federal government has provided no military, logistical, or medical support to Puntland’s operation against ISIS. Amid Puntland defense forces have successfully seized a key ISIS stronghold in the Bari region. 𝗣𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗔𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁 𝗜𝗦𝗜𝗦: Puntland State of Somalia, has renewed its call for international assistance in combating the persistent threat posed by ISIS militants operating in the region. On December 31, 2024, Puntland's security forces successfully neutralized 12 foreign ISIS fighters attempting to attack an army base in #Dharjale. Among those eliminated were individuals of #Moroccan, #Saudi, #Tanzanian, #Libyan, #Tunisian, #Yemeni, and #Ethiopian nationalities, highlighting the transnational nature of the ISIS network. This operation underscores the broader challenge of foreign terrorist fighters, a phenomenon that transcends national borders. Puntland’s Minister of Interior, Abdi Faraha Juxa, emphasized the urgent need for a collective response, stating, "The ISIS attack on Puntland security forces and the recent ISIS-inspired attack on civilians in New Orleans demonstrate the global reach of terrorism. International support is critical to counter this menace effectively." Experts, including Ahmed Abdullahi Sheikh, a former commander of Somalia's Danab special forces, suggest that the Al-Miskad Mountains in Puntland may play a pivotal role in facilitating ISIS activities worldwide. He noted that the region could serve as a hub for logistical and financial support, enabling the group to plan and execute operations far beyond Somalia's borders, suggesting that the recent ISIS-inspired attack in New Orleans could have benefited from logistical and financial support originating from the region. **UPDATE:** The Somali government is transferring airspace management to a company based in the United Arab Emirates, different from the NAV-PASS company that was contracted for revenue collection last week. Cloud AIR Navigation Service L.L.C.O.P.C. will handle Somalia's airspace management and is capable of overseeing all air operations within the country. An agreement reached between Somalia and Cloud Air, a copy of which was obtained by Gaylan Media, reveals that payments were exchanged and that various members of the Somali Federal Government (SFG) were involved in negotiations or financial transactions. The Turkish government has expressed discontent over the NAV-PASS revenue collection agreement, and the new decision is likely to spark further conflict.

#UPDATE The Ethiopian government is set to relocate its largest military base in Eastern Ethiopia to the city of Godey in the Somali Region, which is close to the Somalia border. Last week, in FeerFeer district, located 50km to Baladweyne, a new base was established to accommodate Ethiopian troops that withdrew from the Hiiraan region. Ethiopian military media announced last night a program highlighting the strategic importance of this base relocation to Godey, with more details expected to be broadcast soon.
