Saturday, 4th April ~ Following the upcoming release of the nonos-kernel-v0.8.4 we are currently in active test validation phase for the microkernel. Due to the bare-metal nature of the system, conventional Rust testing infrastructure is not applicable. The kernel operates in a freestanding environment without access to the standard library or host operating system services. As a result, we developed a dedicated test framework that executes during kernel initialization, validating subsystem behavior under actual hardware conditions rather than simulated environments. This approach enables detection of concurrency issues, memory management faults and hardware interaction bugs that would not manifest in hosted test environments. This week we identified and resolved a read-write lock contention issue in FPU state management where context restoration held an active lock across a non-returning operation, causing subsequent processes to deadlock during state preservation. A technical report documenting test methodology, coverage metrics, identified issues and resolution status will be published Monday. By the way, Happy Easter 🐣 Further updates to follow.
