Emir Feisal, the most respected leader of the Arab world, welcomed and pushed for Zionism as early as 1918 (30 years before Israel’s independence), but extremists ensured peace never stood a chance. In 1918, Emir Feisal was the undisputed Arab leader — son of the Sharif of Mecca, direct descendant of Muhammad, commander of the Arab Revolt, and the most beloved Arab figure of his time. Feisal met Zionist leader Dr. Chaim Weizmann in Aqaba and saw Palestine — which he called “Southern Syria” and Jews called Eretz Israel — as a neglected, barren, malaria-ridden wasteland under Ottoman rule.
