A superb day for our OCA #OrchidsOfRhodes group today, with a plethora of Ophrys bee orchids seeing our tally sail past 40 species. Ophrys oreas were a joy in pine woodlands, but Ophrys calypsus blew them away in the olive groves.

We're feeling in the pink this week as the #OrchidsOfRhodes continue to delight with every turn. Today we started our exploration of upland and woodland sites, enjoying many orchids in peak condition, including these fine Neotinea lactea and Orchis anatolica.

Today's been an absolute feast of Ophrys bee orchids for my @Mariposa_Nature guests on the #OrchidsOfRhodes tour. Mirror Orchid in particular have been exceptionally numerous, while their hybrids with Ophrys rhodia are just getting started in bloom.

Over 20 species of #orchids seen beautifully well today on Rhodes, with the stars of the show being vast numbers of Ophrys cretica - they're having a great year, and are flowering in profusion at the moment. A firm favourite with our #OrchidsOfRhodes guests.

7/3/26 #OrchidsOfCyprus - A marvellous example of "lusus naturae" where a mutation causes a monstrous form, in this case two faces on this example of Ophrys lapethica. Such events are more commonly observed at sites with large populations of plants, such as Cyprus

We think a conservation charity shouldn't have to wait for a donation; not for months, and certainly not for years. We've made our #OrchidsOfCyprus donation to @BSBIbotany today, the day after the tour ended. We've donated to them after every #orchid tour since Mariposa formed.

If any image sums up what we love best here at Team Mariposa, it's this one from tour leader @thenewgalaxy today - a lovely, fresh Paphos Blue on Anacamptis syriaca, the sophisticated cousin of Green-winged Orchid. We can't think of any better thing for a butterfly to sit upon.
