The Allies carried out a massive aerial bombing campaign against German economic targets in 1944-45; the Nazi regime remained firmly in power right up to the surrender. There's no evidence that this kind of campaign leads to regime collapse.

The whole Iran war is looking more and more like a gimmick to drop energy sanctions on Russia and pressure Europeans to do the same. A war to make Russia’s much larger war easier and possible to sustain.

Suffolk was the proof of concept. Romania may become the scaling node. Interceptor drones could become the export product. Ukraine is not just defending itself anymore. It is starting to reshape Europe’s defense industry from the inside.

That is where this story gets properly big. Recon drones matter. But interceptor drones could become a pan-European necessity. Because Europe is learning the same lesson Ukraine learned first: you cannot keep using very expensive missiles to kill very cheap drones.

And the most interesting part may be what comes next: interceptor drones. Reuters reported this week that Ukraine sees export potential in drone interceptors and says production could scale to 2,000 per day, with companies like UForce, Wild Hornets and SkyFall in the mix.

So the pattern is becoming clear: Ukraine fights. Europe hosts capacity. The border between “supporting Ukraine” and “building a European defense base” gets thinner every month.

And Britain may be only the beginning. Romania and Ukraine are now in talks on EU-funded joint drone production under SAFE. Romania has €16.6bn allocated through the programme, with €200m earmarked for joint drone manufacturing. Fifteen Ukrainian companies are already involved.

This is why the Suffolk factory is bigger than a single site. It is a signal that Ukraine’s defense industry is starting to spill into Europe itself. Not as charity. As industrial capacity.

The strategic logic is obvious: Design and combat feedback stay tied to Ukraine. Part of the manufacturing base moves into safer European territory. Production becomes harder to disrupt. And integration with NATO supply chains gets easier.

This is not about cheap FPV spam. The plant is tied to more advanced ISR systems like the PD-2 and SHARK family — drones used for reconnaissance, target detection, and artillery correction. In plain English: not just “flying bombs”, but battlefield eyes.

The factory is in Suffolk and is being developed by Ukrspecsystems, one of Ukraine’s biggest drone makers. The UK government said the project involves £200 million in investment and could create up to 500 jobs across the sites and supply chain.

Ukraine just opened its first drone production plant in Britain. That matters for 3 reasons: • it moves part of Ukraine’s war industry into NATO space • it creates industrial spillover inside Europe • it shows Ukrainian defense tech is no longer just “surviving” — it is scaling 🧵👇

Of all the many abominations in the Trump administration, I personally find this one to be the most abhorrent. Unlike most of the others, this one actually understands the full extent of the catastrophe he's doing his best to bring about, all in hopes of one day being president.

If the USA does not intend to honour the obligation to defend NATO because European countries dont join an offensive war of choice against Iran that we have absolutely no obligation to join, the USA membership of NATO is already worthless. The NATO oath to defend each other is unconditional. If you dont intend to honour it because you are offended about disagreements that have nothing to do with the treaty obligation that you have sworn to uphold, your are not a realiable ally. Tresties with you are worthless and your word means nothing. Unfortunately, that seems to be the case for the USA.

If Trumps war in Iran leads to the end of NATO, it will go down in history of as one of the worst foreign policy decisions in American history ever. I hope Trump administration officials will work hard to avoid this disastrous outcome.
