🧵2 Managing Kafka nodes with Kubernetes and Strimzi was an ongoing challenge—especially under high traffic. In our experience, new nodes weren’t consistently recognized, causing delays and inefficiencies when we needed seamless scaling the most. We replaced Strimzi with a custom Kafka Controller, tailored to our requirements. It integrates new nodes seamlessly, making Kafka cluster scaling faster, simpler, and far more reliable. #Kafka #DevOps

🧵1 One major reason we transitioned Kafka from Kubernetes to dedicated EC2 instances: better resource control. On Kubernetes, when we requested 2 CPU cores and 8GB of RAM, the actual allocation often fell short (~1.8C & ~7.5GB). While manageable at a small scale, at larger scales, this discrepancy led to inflated costs. With EC2, we have exact control over resources—no discrepancies, no waste. This precision ensures optimal performance and has helped us significantly reduce costs. #Kafka #EC2
