The Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) of Permanent Representatives (PRs) in New York met this afternoon Chaired by H.E Ambassador Filipo Tarakinikini PR of Fiji🇫🇯. The PRs of MSG countries were all represented: Papua New Guinea 🇵🇬 HE Ambassador Fred Sarufa, PR of Solomon Islands 🇸🇧 HE Ambassador Jane Waetara and PR of Vanuatu 🇻🇺 HE Ambassador Odo Tevi. The MSG Secretariat linked in virtually from Vila, Vanuatu and provided briefs on a number of issues led by Acting Director General Mr. Ilan Kiloe. The meeting addressed a broad range of issues critical to the MSG Group and the Pacific region, in alignment with the mandates set by MSG Leaders. The discussion highlighted the pivotal role of Permanent Representatives based in New York and the MSG Secretariat in advancing these priorities. Established in 1986, the Melanesian Spearhead Group serves as a subregional voice within the Pacific Islands Forum. It focuses on key areas such as trade, climate resilience, security, and self-determination, ensuring that Melanesian interests are represented in regional and global forums.
