WWE made the decision for Brock Lesnar to squash John Cena at Wrestlepalooza because the Cena vs. Dominik Mysterio feud had already been decided upon, while Lesnar was being groomed for bigger things. The idea was to position Lesnar at a higher level than everyone but a few top talents, and as Cena was bullet-proof and going to work with Dominik, the company didn't feel the need to protect Cena.
