A fascinating problem in Ireland, and the west tbh, is that almost nobody advocates for the economic opportunities of young people explicitly The reasons are clear but theres this gap between leaving education and first child where the government just pretends you are irrelevant

Government Resorting to Deflection, Labelling and Name-Calling — The Same Playbook Used Against Ordinary Protestors Last Week Independent Ireland categorically rejects the baseless and politically motivated allegations of misogyny made by Minister for Foreign Affairs and Defence Helen McEntee and other Government representatives. Independent Ireland judges and challenges Government Ministers on their record, their decisions, and their failures — not on their gender. Any suggestion otherwise is a deliberate distortion of legitimate political scrutiny. The claims that our TDs behaved in a misogynistic manner during the recent Dáil debate are not only untrue, but a cynical attempt to deflect from the growing public anger at this Government’s failures. The Dáil record will clearly show that exchanges were not targeted on the basis of gender. It is deeply concerning — though not surprising — that Ministers have chosen to resort to false accusations, deflection, and labelling rather than engage with the substance of the issues being raised. This behaviour speaks volumes about the pressure this Government is now under. Government ministers made blatantly false allegations in the chamber in what was an abuse of Dail privilege, Independent Ireland TD's have a right to defend themselves against baseless allegations and misinformation, for a Government allegedly so concerned about misinformation it seems to have no issue with its own ministers making false and damaging accusations under privilege and that is to be condemned. We saw this same tactic only last week, when instead of addressing the very real concerns of ordinary, decent people struggling with the cost of living, fuel prices, and public safety, the Government chose to label and dismiss them. That approach backfired spectacularly. It is clear that no "lessons have been learned" If the Minister wishes to speak about respect and accountability, she would be better served by addressing the conduct within her own Government. It is extraordinary that a senior Minister appears to have been blindsided by her own colleagues’ decision to consider deploying the Defence Forces in response to a peaceful protest — a matter of serious national importance. We have also been made aware of a letter sent to the Ceann Comhairle in relation to these exchanges by a member of the opposition, Rather than recognise the serious crisis people in this country are in, it is unfortunate that a member of the opposition has decided to attempt to distract from the real issues at hand and play the Government's game on this issue. We will respond in full through the appropriate channels. Independent Ireland stands firmly for respectful, robust debate and will continue to challenge this Government on behalf of the people we represent. @RichardODonoghu @kenoflynnTD @MichaelC_IND_TD @ciaranmullooly

@StephenMather6 @BlakeDonne76114 Onesided reporting about many things. An example: protests against ipas centres in communities are reported about only if there is unrest. We had peaceful protests and they were never mentioned. Also, they never question government policies like real journalists should

National defense in the event of a general mobilization due to a foreign invasion is not a voluntary matter. Some people do not understand this and frame legal measures as arbitrary “forced conscription”. That is not the case.

Merz and Zelensky announcing the repatriation of Ukrainian fighting-age men makes you think of two things. First, “to the last Ukrainian” is not an exaggeration. Second, if Ukrainians can be repatriated, then why don’t they repatriate other refugees?

BREAKING: "We will be coordinating closely to lower the number of Ukrainian men in the EU. It's important that they stay in Ukraine and fight," says Merz. Ukrainian men must return from abroad. We will address this issue jointly with European intelligence agencies, says Zelenskyy. Forced deportation based on ethnicity and gender. Unparalleled in history! Human rights activists, where are you?

If these 7 independent TD’s had voted against the government yesterday the count would have been 85 - 85 so the deciding vote would have rested with the Ceann Comhairle Verona Murphy, who is also an independent. The Power rested with these so called Independent TD’s they should have represented our voices, but they didn’t!

@jasonomahony And we could have a section to pay extra tax for things people care about without forcing everyone else to pay for them. I guess all those ngos, foreign aid, carbon tax and ipas centres would disappear over night :)

What kinda sucks about Ireland is we have successfully unlocked an unlimited money machine by tying ourselves to the success of the most profitable companies in the world, that seem to grow no matter what happens, and we can't build the infrastructure to make us feel that wealth

Dont be fooled by this fool. If he cared about people he would not have lied to women with terminal cancer. He would not have lied to children living in agony with scoliosis. Every word out of his mouth is written for him by a former journalist or two who themselves lack any credibility or empathy, Every office Harris has held he has been a disaster, His entire career has been built on soundbites helped by a compliant media either afraid to hold him to account or paid not to.

@LeoVaradkar @SineadOS1 Thanks for engaging in this. You travelled the Europe, can you really claim that Irish infrastructure is as good as others? Look at Prague, Barcelona, Vienna, Berlin, Zurich and compare them to Dublin. My kids are getting education in prefabs. What do I get for 50% taxes?

What you've done is blatantly obvious. Picked the data points that suited the outcome you wanted and ignored those that don't. YES c. 35k irish grads left last year BUT roughly the same number returned AND with grads from overseas we had a net 'brain gain'. You'd fail my class

The protests in Ireland are not about just fuel! They are about the distance between Ireland on this graph and every other modern and developed economy. Ireland is second wealthiest but gets waaaaay less than any other country for that wealth. By a golden mile. That visual gap in this graph? That’s what people are protesting. It’s a lack of infrastructure and the everyday enshittification of services, the economy, and the additional difficulty of trying to live, relative to peers in any other country. It also highlights why people don’t get uniformly listened to! - because there is no government architecture to engage meaningfully across this huge gap. That gap is a three hour drive to work in traffic, a 14 month wait for an MRI, buses that don’t arrive, trains that don’t exist, schools that have no places for your kids, houses that are unaffordable, pubs that close before midnight, €12 sandwiches, expensive fuel. People feel this gap, even if they can’t explain it precisely. And that builds into resentment, and ultimately protest. Fuel just happened to be the next thing that could be pointed to, today.
