@doctorogres @_TyAnderson Carolina and Florida also make savvy trades and invest in casts off who didn’t fit systems. To suggest that because the draft value is tied to pick number is silly given how many guys in the NHL were outside pick 20. It’s still craptastic drafting.

@_TyAnderson Because draft position is a thing and the drop-off is exponential. Bruins had a total pick value of 49.22 during those three years, it's disingenuous to compare their drafting to Florida (121.16) or Carolina (187.46). Like sure, I could be rich if I hit on my scratch tickets.

Why are we all allergic to saying “they should’ve gotten more than one player.” Like why does it become this “you’re better than this” hyperbole. They got one player. Out of 21 picks. All those players would be approaching their primes. It’s hurt them. That’s all we gotta say.

Ty - you are better than this. The odds of any player picked outside of the top ~10 (I don’t remember the exact cutoff) becoming an NHL regular is very low. The bruins exclusively picked in the bottom quarter of each round during those years. 2018: no first round pick, but Lauko in round 3 (not an excellent player but still close to 100 games — that’s a win for round 3). 2019: Beecher at 30 OA, no second pick. Beecher not excellent either but still >100 games. Good for 30 OA. 2020: no first round pick, Lohrei at end of round 2 — clearly a big hit even if Lohrei isn’t a game changing D. 2021: gambled on Lysell, didn’t work out. No second round pick. It’s really not brutal when you consider that all the high value picks simply didn’t exist. Reducing it to a numbers game ignores the fact that hardly any team in the league has hit on a player outside of rounds 1-3 during that timeframe.

@KrustyEric @SabresGandhi @iamhockey1 I see a lot of Bruins fans mocking Zellweger deals, but what does he solve exactly? BOS has legitimately six NHL-caliber LHD, not including a couple prospects that have yet to turn pro. Regarding Elias, I think BOS is stuck with that contract for a while.

Feel like the meet in the middle play is Zellweger but that feels like it might get complicated with Elias and McTavish maybe involved too

I’d rather shoot my shot we a 23 year old former 2 OA who has good offensive instincts who is also much cheaper and lets you do more with the roster (like top-6 F, maybe?)

Sweeney has historically been hesitant to trade 1sts unless it was to also dump a bad contract or in 2023 when they were trying to make the team a juggernaut. Think he still has a bad taste from the Nash trade.

I genuinely think another team would be willing to at least offer up a pick in the 20s & a decent prospect to bet on his ceiling. My offer would be 23 + Lohrei.

SJS, VAN, NYR, CGY, STL are all teams that pick 20 or later that have multiple picks who I think could give up at least their later 1st for him.

Not sure how many offers top. No team is offering a 1st. Maybe they get a second and a prospect but who knows. Feels like Zacha 2.0

@KrustyEric @SabresGandhi @iamhockey1 This is actually an extremely valid point. It seems like NJD has soured on the player and they might just let him walk to an offer sheet as an RFA. That said, he’s worth more than a 2nd and there will be competition to acquire him, so I don’t see an offer sheet happening.

@SabresGandhi @iamhockey1 More than likely the fact that NJD probably doesn’t match an offer sheet at say 5x4.75 which is a clean 2nd. Probably just offer the 2nd and probably a letter pick and maybe a fringe prospect. NJD hasn’t exactly shown they care about him so leverage is gonna be weird
