Also retrofit programs and policies need to think holistically about costs. Instead of focusing on upfront costs alone, cost impacts across rent, maintenance, energy costs, and more were important. See our open access paper for more findings: tinyurl.com/5yxdp75b

Trust between multiple actors was also a crucial factor. Retrofits can be enabled by disseminating knowledge of retrofit programs through trusted communicators.

@Marielle_Papin Thanks for sharing! The international student aspect is another whole layer on top of this. The stagnation is really galling. It was worth it to the government to pay stipends of $21,000 20 years ago but not to increase it since then? Students can't afford to live in Toronto

That's some of the added difficulties #firstgen and #immigrants go through. And I guess this is also why I feel actually really grateful to the government.

When I started my PhD in Quebec, I had no funding and I didn't have access to federal (or provincial at the time) stipends because I am a foreigner. I thought this was on me, for rushing into doing a PhD.

Graduate student pay is outrageously low in Canada. So much more federal and university support is needed. Stipends are the same as they were 20 years ago theglobeandmail.com/canada/article…

Imagine how far $1T could go in making a better world. How much of the Canadian grid could have switched to clean sources. How much transit infrastructure could have been built. How much conservation financing it could have funded. This will be judged as criminal by history.
