Thought today would be a good day to bump this thread i wrote about the the role the Olympic Games have always played in upholding dominant social hierarchies and fomenting hypernationalism. The sanctity of the Olympic movement is a myth!

First, you have to understand that the modern Olympic Games, founded by Pierre Baron de Coubertin and first held in 1896, from their inception were a tool for nationalistic fervor. The Olympics were inherently exclusionary, and their early history is inextricable from elitism.
