@jdflynn @hmkherman @PillarCatholic Images aside, I personally find the “doghouse” pun in the headline in poor taste, given that this is a pretty grave matter (even if not done with sacrilegious intent).
English

@hmkherman @PillarCatholic In fairness, I have never head of this pious custom.
I'd like to read more about it before making an editorial decision about it though.
English

The diocese said three people who shared the Eucharist with their dogs have not been excommunicated because they “did not act with sacrilegious intent.”

@isawarenshi @robertlasagna1 One of the more interesting takeaways I’ve had from this that both red pushers and blue pushers feel pretty confident their approach would be the majority.
English

@LockesBrother @robertlasagna1 I think history shows your premise that 1 is easier is faulty. We are getting to a point possibly of being more altruistic but as a whole species we are not there.
English

@photogenicplaty @robertlasagna1 Listen to yourself. You called pushing red something a non-Christian, selfish bastard would do. Then you say Christians need to push red—not because it’s good, but to protect us from selfish non-Christians. Christ did not teach us to become like our enemies to protect ourselves.
English

@LockesBrother @robertlasagna1 Except they won't. Anyone that's not living in a white, predominantly culturally Christian country will not press the blue button. The only way to ensure you live is pushing red. You're overcomplicating it.
There is no inherent morality to pressing blue over red here.
English

@photogenicplaty @LockesBrother @robertlasagna1 Idk, most red pushers have been conservatives, and most blue pushers have been more liberal.
English

@robertlasagna1 I never said you are evil or affirmatively want people to die. I do think the implications of red are fundamentally immoral. I’ve been disturbed how many people I’ve seen say red, and even more disturbed how many tweets I’ve seen saying blue pushers deserve to die.
English

@LockesBrother I notice you didn't say "I'm sorry for saying you are evil and want people to die"
English

@photogenicplaty @robertlasagna1 It’s a murder button—people only die if a critical mass of red button pushers exist. Every red button pusher is culpable in the death.
English

@LockesBrother @robertlasagna1 How do you jeopardize your soul by pressing the button that enables you to live no matter what?
English

@LockesBrother @photogenicplaty @robertlasagna1 Nothing Christian about making your kids orphans when there is a better way.
English

@photogenicplaty @robertlasagna1 Blue without a doubt, for the same reason I am blue without a doubt: it is better to jeopardize one’s life than one’s soul.
English

@LockesBrother @robertlasagna1 Would you tell your child to press red or blue? Knowing that the vast majority of people are selfish.
English

@photogenicplaty @robertlasagna1 If everyone presses blue, they also live. But as we both know, not everyone will press the same color. The question is whether 100% chance of personal survival is more important than the collective pursuit of no one dying.
Would Christ push the red button?
English

@LockesBrother @robertlasagna1 Christ saved everyone who would believe. He didn't leave it up to us nor democracy because if He had, nobody would be saved.
If everyone presses red, they live. There's actually no reason to press anything other than red.
English

@photogenicplaty @robertlasagna1 Lucky for us all Christian morality has been extremely influential to the point where most people’s instincts will still be to pick blue.
And if I’m wrong, I would rather die a Christian than live a selfish bastard.
English

@LockesBrother @robertlasagna1 There's no coordination. Everyone is a selfish bastard absent Christian morality. Pick red.
English

@robertlasagna1 There are two ways to ensure no one dies:
(1) Coordinate to 50% +1 blue
(2) Coordinate to 100% red.
(1) is an extremely realistic option, frankly almost certainly what will just happen organically. (2) is impossible. If we want max(p) zero deaths, then blue is clear
English

@LockesBrother I would say that youre not comfortable with your own savagery and are projecting it onto others, I dont want anyone to die either and I think its rude of you to say that about me
English

@AlanMCole @HistoryBoomer Blue also *should* be a zero risk option. The only reason it becomes risky is when sin takes over and people become paranoid.
Are there gonna be some selfish dinners? Sure. The blue strategy just requires you to live in a society where <50% of people are paranoid. Not that hard
English

@AlanMCole @HistoryBoomer The natural, intuitive response for anyone who is (1) basically well intentioned and (2) not super into game theory will be to pick blue. Every grandma, good kid, person with Down syndrome, etc will all push blue.
English

I think people are choosing "blue" because then they can feel noble, but in the real world, with their life on the line, they'd press red.
I'd certainly press red! Just have the whole world press red, and nobody dies!
Tim Urban@waitbutwhy
Everyone in the world has to take a private vote by pressing a red or blue button. If more than 50% of people press the blue button, everyone survives. If less than 50% of people press the blue button, only people who pressed the red button survive. Which button would you press?
English

@a_fellow_of @dr_souse To get zero deaths with “team blue,” you need to get 50% of people on your team. To get zero deaths with “team red,” you need to get 100% of people on your team.
English

@Antweegonus Because sweet grandmas and people with Down Syndrome and other not overly online sociopaths wouldn’t all jump in the blender, while they would all push the blue button.
English

@a_fellow_of People with Down Syndrome alone are sufficient reason to push blue.
Also all you have to do to push blue is bank on >50% of people being neither online autistic types nor sociopaths. Even the Twitter poll, highly selected for both, has majority blue. Blue all the way.
English

@LockesBrother does your answer change if, before pressing the button, everyone has the game theory and so on explained to them, and have to think about it for an hour?
